March 20, 2009 (Fontana, Ca.)-The second round of the 2009 AMA Pro Racing Daytona SportBike series is officially underway. Team Paradigm Racing finished Provisional Qualifying in tenth position and scored their first SuperPole of the season. Provisional Qualifying times were hovering around the mid-teens’ before a tire change was made. The new set of soft tires allowed rider Barrett Long to push hard despite the track conditions being less than optimal. Times began to drop and by the session’s finish Team Paradigm Racing had made their way into SuperPole. Long was the first rider out for SuperPole and had a slight issue with the foot peg in the first split. Unfortunately, this initial drop in time was difficult to overcome and resulted in a time lower than his Provisional Qualifying time. However, Team Paradigm Racing was able to secure a ninth place finish in SuperPole which moved them up one position from qualifying. “I was able to really get the most out of the second set of tires. The bike was setup and performing great so I felt like I could really get that much more out of it. I really want to thank my Crew Chief, Perry Melneciuc, for really dialing the bike in during practice. The track wasn’t all that great early on, but as time went on it got better. SuperPole was a real treat and despite one slight issue I think we’ve put ourselves in a good position for tomorrow’s race. It’s always a little nerve racking being the first guy out, but I’m glad we could get the Paradigm Racing Yamaha R6 in SuperPole.” For more information on Team Paradigm Racing log on to www.paradigmracing.net or follow their Twitter page at www.twitter.com/paradigmracing. More, from a press release issued by Michael Jordan Motorsports: Michael Jordan Motorsports Qualifies Both Riders on the Front Row at Auto Club Speedway FONTANA, CA (March 20, 2009) Michael Jordan Motorsports riders Aaron Yates and Geoff May each qualified for the front row in Round 2 of the AMA Pro Racing American Superbike Championship at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Aaron Yates of the #23 Jordan Suzuki team lowered his Basic Qualifying time during Superpole to 1:24.759, putting his GSXR-1000 in 2nd position on the grid. Rounding out the starting field, in 4th position with a Superpole time of 1:24.885, is Geoff May of the #54 National Guard Jordan Suzuki team. This is the first time during the 2009 season that both Michael Jordan Motorsports riders will appear together on the front row and puts them in excellent starting position for this weekend’s contests. Aaron Yates – 2nd 1:24.759 – Jordan Suzuki #23 “It feels good to be starting from 2nd position after the results we had in Daytona,” said Yates. “All the guys have been putting in some hard work and we were able to go out there in Superpole and go faster than we had during Basic Qualifying. We have some small changes to make before the race and we’re confident we can run up front.” Geoff May – 4th 1:24.885 – National Guard Jordan Suzuki #54 “First off, a big thanks to my crew,” said May. “I’m happy to be on the front row and our guys have been working hard since Daytona to dial in some chassis issues and I can feel the results. I had a small moment during my flying lap and almost highsided onto the front straight but I pulled it together and charged hard to the line to put my National Guard GSX-R on the front row!” ABOUT MICHAEL JORDAN MOTORSPORTS: Legendary NBA star Michael Jordan formed Michael Jordan Motorsports in 2004 as a result of his passion for motorcycle racing. His mission is to bring a new level of excellence and style to the motorcycle racing industry. ABOUT THE NATIONAL GUARD: The National Guard is the oldest component of the Armed Forces of the United States and one of the nation’s longest enduring institutions. The National Guard operates in all 50 states, four territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, Samoa and the Virgin Islands) and the District of Columbia. Yates’ best lap time from Saturday’s 20 minute qualifying session was well within the 110% cutoff rule of class leader Jason DiSalvo’s best time to make the grid, but was 2 seconds off what Yates had expected to do leaving him 15th out of 20 riders. Chip Yates: “With this being our first AMA Pro race, we first have to focus on making it into the show, and then figure out how to fight farther up the field. I have a number of improvements to make in my riding and our data acquisition found a few things with the bike that weren’t helping matters so I am optimistic that we will do some better times for the Saturday final qualifying and the 4:00pm Daytona SportBike race. In any case, we are thrilled and honored to be here among the best riders in America.” At 38 years old and with less than two years of racing experience, Chip is almost certainly on the steepest learning curve of any rider taking the Daytona SportBike grid Saturday, and there have been some exciting moments in his rapid ascent to the professional ranks. Two of Chip’s three crashes have occurred at Auto Club Speedway; in January, 2008 Chip crashed at over 100 MPH and broke his left collarbone but walked away thanks to the protection of his Dainese leather suit. Last month, Yates crashed at 70 MPH while testing control tires in preparation for this race weekend, but was completely uninjured thanks again to his Dainese suit. An on-board video of the crash footage is at www.youtube.com/chipyates. Chip is sponsored by: SWIGZ.COM Dual Hydration System, Dainese, Dainese D-Store Costa Mesa, Aim Sports LLC, Woodcraft, M4 Performance Exhaust, and Armour Bodies.
