Garrett Willis Secures Two 2008 AFM 600 Championships In a typical race season there are ups and downs and twists and turns and Garrett Willis’s 2008 AFM season has been no exception to the rule. The big challenge is to make the most of a bad situation and hope that the wrong things happen at the right time. Going into the final 2008 AFM round at Buttonwillow this past weekend Garrett Willis had a decent point lead in both the 600 Superbike and 600 Production classes and wasn’t feeling a lot of pressure. Two turns into each one of those races he was extremely grateful that he had fought as hard as he had for all the points he had accumulated throughout the season. Both races had identical results with Garrett securing an excellent start and leading to the first turn only to have the bike experience a mechanical problem that wouldn’t allow him to finish the race. Fortunately Willis’s point margin was enough to allow him win the class championships in the 600 Production and 600 Superbike, both of the classes he contested in the 2008 AFM series. After the race Garrett said “Of course I would of liked to put an exclamation point on the championships with wins today and I think I was in a good position to do that with the starts I had but I feel extremely fortunate that I had the issues I had when I did and still had enough points to take the titles. I want to thank Lenny Hale and all the other great guys we raced with for all the close battles we had and wish Lenny a complete and speedy recovery from his recent injuries. We had some great duels I was always happy with the results my Honda CBR600RR brought me and I’m looking forward to the final WERA round in Las Vegas and hope to lock down another WERA class championship there.” The next race on the schedule for Garrett is the WERA West final 2008 round at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on November 1st-2nd.
