Westby, Howard Top Hallett Sprints Dane Westby, Ty Howard and Randall Kienast came away the big winners at round four of the CMRA Championship Series held at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Hallett, Oklahoma. Out of Sunday’s 18 sprint races, Westby won a total of five, Howard won three and Kienast claimed two. Westby and Howard also engaged in a battle of lap times as the two riders took turns lowering the track record on the 1.8-mile course, which was being ridden in the clockwise direction. In all, the record was lowered a half dozen times and when all was said and done, Westby walked away with the final record, a 1:16.326, and the $250 prize paid by Sum of all Parts for setting the fastest lap. One of Kienast’s two wins came in the premiere race of the day, the 10-lap Northwest Honda Formula 1 race, which he won with a dramatic pass at the checkers over Howard. Top Novice-class performances were turned in by Dustin Doucet with four wins and Steve Hendricks with three. Stephen Guynes, Joshua Miller, Conner Blevins and Roger Albert each claimed wins in mini sprint races on Saturday morning. In Saturday’s Shogun Motorsports 5 Hour Endurance race, Lone Star Track Days claimed their first-ever overall victory by topping Short Bus Racing by 19 seconds for the win. Defending series champions Desert-Rats.net crossed the checkers two laps down to claim third overall and first in the A Superstock division, while Smylyn Yoda came out on top of a three-way battle with Earl’s Racing Team and Faltless Racing to win the Formula 2 division, with an eighth overall finish. In Saturday’s Shogun Motorsports Formula Mini Endurance round, GMAN Racing 2 went flag to flag to take the win, topping round-one winners Hambone by a one-lap margin. Desert-Mice Too finished third, with Desert-Mice and No Homeless rounding out the top five. Cycle1Racing won the Formula 6 class with a 16th overall finish, while Carey Racing finished 27th overall to top the Formula 7 class. The CMRA will return to action at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas, on June 8-10, with a full slate of sprint and endurance racing. Team EDR Performance riders took commanding wins all day long in the 2nd round of OMRRA racing at Portland International Raceway in very wet conditions. In the morning 4 lap qualifier races, EDR Performance riders won all 6 main events, winning 600 superbike, 600 supersport, 750 superbike, 750 supersport, Open Supersport and Open Superbike. Later in day during even heavier rain and delays, the team’s riders were able to continue thier show of force by winning 4 of the 6 main class events sprints. In 600 supersport Pete Bertram was able to dominate the class with a win of over 12 secs to fellow EDR rider Mark Gulin. In 600 superbike after 3 red flags the EDR Performance R6 superbike with Mark Gulin had to start from Row 9..yet still managed to catch the entire field and take a very exciting win by mere feet at the line! Jason Bluth riding his EDR Performance GSXR750 took the win in Open Supersport and a hard fought 2nd place in 750 supersport. More, from a press release issued by SCminiGP: Solis Jr. takes third consecutive win with USGRPU Benny Solis Jr. takes his third consecutive win this past weekend at round three of the USGPRU west coast race series. The race was held at the Las Vegas International Speedway, where they classic course was used. Solis was fortunate enough to take pole position and got the holeshot. Solis led until Tyler Odum challenged him at the halfway. Tyler who is another skilled youth 125cc racer pressured Solis multiple times until he finally overtook. But the pass did not last long as Solis fought back to recover his lead. The two riders went back and forth fighting for the first position the rest of the race, but in the end it was Solis by less than half a bikelength. This was Solis’ third 125cc race with USGPRU and puts Solis in the top standings for points. Solis Jr. has been working hard and receiving a significant amount of support from his father Ben Solis, sponsors and peers. While his bike performed new gymnastic manuevers, Jim slid across the pavement on his bare hand after his glove was removed by the sliding pavement below him. He traveled back to Kentucky Sunday and will receive special medical treatment for his hand, arm and wrist on Monday morning. He will be back soon.
