Uribe Equals Season’s Best In BSB Motostar Finale
Jayson Uribe, the American teen that has excelled in the ultra-competitive BSB Motostar series, signed off his 2014 season, in which he finished a credible 3rd overall in the final standings, by equaling his best result of the year at Brands Hatch yesterday.
Fast from the opening free practice, running at the front, Uribe fought hard once again when race day dawned to finish 3rd overall and claim the 2nd position out of the Moto3 competitors aboard his FPW Honda.
9th on the starting grid after a spill in second qualifying, a strong 2nd position in the warm up gave Jayson and the FPW team hope of ending 2014 as they began, at the sharp end.
By the time the race was due to start the rain had gone leaving a dry Brands Hatch circuit and a huge crowd that were expecting a thrilling BSB Motostar finale – they weren’t disappointed.
Jayson made a solid start and was up to 5th as the field turned into Paddock Hill Bend, ending lap one he was still inside the top 6 and in contention for the leading Moto3 honours.
By half race distance the young American was involved in an epic four way fight for 3rd overall. It was visible that his Honda machine was losing a little in straight line speed, but Uribe’s insanely fast corner speed had the huge crowd on their feet as they were treated corner by corner, lap after lap to a number of incredibly brave overtaking moves.
On the final run into the flag, the group couldn’t be separated by the naked eye as Uribe claimed 3rd overall by 0.017s, notching up a fantastic overall podium and his 6th Moto3 podium of the season to end his BSB Motostar campaign with an impressive tally of 163 points, and a truly well-deserved and hard fought 3rd overall in the British Championship.
Jayson also has the accolade of being the highest placed Honda rider within the BSB Motostar Moto3 Championship of 2014.
Jayson Uribe – 3rd overall in the BSB Motostar Championship: “I’ve had a great 2014 BSB season. I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve got some great memories. It was nice not to have any pressure going into the last round. 3rd was sealed, so Brands was all about having fun. The weather all weekend was consistent in having a wet first session, and a damp second session. I felt very confident in the wet and I was hoping that we would have a wet race! I had an off in Q2 on my 3rd timed lap, but we still ended up 9th on the grid which wasn’t too bad. Race day was very relaxed. I got a good start which is exactly what I wanted to do and had a great battle from start to finish with Asher Durham and Charlie Nesbit, managing to grab 3rd overall right on the line at the flag. The result also meant I was the 2nd classified Moto3 finisher which matched my best finish of the year. Overall, this year has been one of my best years of racing. I can’t wait for 2015!”

Mainwaring takes maiden BSB win as Linfoot clinches fifth overall
The Quattro Plant Kawasaki team completed their 2014 British Superbike Championship season in fine style at Brands Hatch over the weekend with Howie Mainwaring giving them their second ever BSB win and Dan Linfoot clinching fifth overall in the title table, also being the only rider to score points in every single one of the 26 races.
Saturday’s opening race of the weekend gave the team one of their finest ever moments in their relatively short career as Howie took a brilliant win, the second for the team after Chris Walker’s victory at Oulton Park in 2012. With rain falling, conditions were extremely treacherous but the Aylesbury-based rider mastered them more than most and tore through the pack from his 12th place on the grid.
By lap 11 he was up to second and with team-mate Linfoot leading, the team were on course for a dream 1-2. Howie took the lead a lap later, eventually holding off a hard-charging Josh Waters for the win whilst Dan suffered a couple of slides and, mindful of his Championship position, brought the bike home in fourth, crucially ahead of Yamaha rivals Tommy Bridewell and Josh Brookes.
Sunday’s opening encounter, held in much more favourable conditions, again saw the duo run at the head of the field for a number of laps but it was again Howie who proved the stronger, eventually crossing the line in third for his second podium in as many races. Linfoot though dropped back in the second half of the race after suffering a technical problem and finished in eighth losing ground to both Brookes and Bridewell.
The final race of the weekend – and of the 2014 season – again saw Mainwaring running strongly but hopes of another podium ended on the eleventh lap when he crashed out spectacularly at Paddock Hill Bend. Meanwhile, North Yorkshire’s Linfoot wrapped up his year with sixth place to secure an excellent fifth place overall and ensure he was the only rider to score points in every single race.
Howie Mainwaring: “To win my first BSB race was pretty emotional and it’s certainly been a long time coming. I’ve won before in Superstock but luck’s always been against me in Superbikes and this year’s been the same with injury and then suffering a number of DNFs. The team have never stopped working though and my side of the garage did an awesome job this weekend. The bike felt like mine from the moment I stepped on it and everything fell into place during the opening race so I was able to move forward all the time. I was really strong on the back part of the circuit and to hold on for the win was fantastic.”
“It’s one thing to do it in the wet but another in the dry and the third place probably meant a lot more to me. I knew I had a good chassis set-up but it wasn’t until the race was properly underway that I realised how good it was. I felt comfortable out front but when Shakey came by I couldn’t run his pace so concentrated on what I was doing and I was delighted to hang on to third place and take another podium. It’s certainly a lot better feeling riding at the front than at the other end of the results!”
Dan Linfoot: “I was absolutely over the moon to see Howie win on Saturday and I’d have loved to have joined him on the podium but after suffering a couple of slides I started to think about my Championship standing. My main aim for the weekend was to beat the two Yamahas and with both Tommy and Josh behind me, I concentrated on bringing the bike home and taking some points out of them. I’d loved it to have been more but I didn’t have the side or entry grip that Howie had so couldn’t run his pace.”
“Fourth was still a good result though and it put me in a good position for Sunday’s opening race but all the ground I’d made up got wiped out in Sunday’s first race when the inside of the front fork leg broke. I couldn’t do anything about and I was relieved to make it to the finish whilst I was a bit slow to get going in the final race. As it was, it was a bit of an up and down weekend but I’ve got to be pleased with how my year’s gone and to finish fifth overall and score points in every race is something I’m very pleased with so a big thank you to everyone in the team.”

MIXED WEEKEND FOR HUSQVARNA RIDERS AT AUSTRALIAN MOTO3
A crash in the final stages of Rd. 16 of the Moto3 World Championship drew a line under Husqvarna Motorcycles factory rider Danny Kent’s podium hopes on the Australian circuit of Phillip Island on Sunday. The British rider had been strong all weekend and was set to have a top result in this very competitive championship.
Kent, who has found very good form in the second half of the season was very well positioned in the leading group of riders but he and South African rider Brad Binder made contact in the final stages of the race and ended in the gravel.
Kent’s fellow Husqvarna rider Niklas Ajo of Finland delivered a strong ride to finish in ninth place, especially after sustaining a massive high speed crash during timed practice during which he suffered a fractured finger and multiple bruises.
For Kent it was a disappointing end to a strong weekend. He had been impressive in all three free practice sessions, finishing 1-5-2 on the time sheets. He then went on to qualify in fourth place to start on the second row, a clear indication of his improved form.
Danny Kent: “Once again we have been very strong here at Phillip Island. Since Aragon we have made an important step forward by demonstrating that we can be up at the front consistently. We worked very well throughout the weekend and it was just a shame about the way it ended. In the incident, Jack [Miller] overtook me on the inside and, when I opened up slightly, I collided with Binder and crashed. It was frustrating because we were going very well and could have fought for another podium. Now we have to focus on Malaysia.”
Husqvarna Team Manager Aki Ajo said it had basically been a strong weekend for both of his riders. “Especially so for Danny,” he said. “He was always in the top group. Finally it was a big disappointment that he couldn’t finish because he really had great potential to be on the podium. But Danny is in a positive mood now and I am sure he will be strong again in Malaysia. The same goes for Niklas. He had a strong weekend but unfortunately he made one mistake in time practice and had a big crash in the first corner. It was difficult for him to start in today’s race because he had pain everywhere.”
Both Kent and Ajo ride the FR 250 GP Husqvarna machine.
Riders now race next weekend on the Sepang circuit in Malaysia before returning to Europe for the final round in Valencia, Spain.

It was a mixed weekend for Luke Mossey and the Teccare Profile Triumph team at the final round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch. Luke could only manage 16th place in the wet opening race and was seventh in race two.
Luke has had some bad luck in previous years at Brands Hatch in wet weather conditions, breaking his arm, losing the tip of his finger and dislocating his shoulder all in three different incidents at the Brands circuit.
The weather certainly played its part for Supersport and Luke took the brunt of it only managing to qualify in 14th place on the grid, just before the opening sprint on Saturday the heavens opened again and the race was declared wet. He got a good start but sadly dropped backwards through the pack and despite his efforts could only gain 16th position.
Sunday was dry and Luke was eager to made amends for the previous day, he got a great start and was soon challenging for a podium position. He was dicing for second place with Glenn Irwin. Luke made a couple of mistakes and then ran really wide into turn one which nearly saw him end up in the gravel, he managed to fight it back onto the track and he had to settle for seventh.
Luke Mossey – “This wasn’t really the way I wanted to end the season I was hoping for a couple more podiums. I was gutted the rain came on Saturday but pleased to have finished the race in those conditions with no injuries. I didn’t want to push too hard this weekend as there was nothing to gain, I didn’t have a Championship to win.
I am in the process of talking and testing for next year and it was important that I left Brands in one piece. I have a couple of good opportunities for next season and hope to be able to make an announcement shortly.
The season has been mixed again after I dislocated my shoulder at round one but once again managed to come back strong gaining eight podiums along the way. I really want to thank all the people that have helped me, my Dad, all my mechanics plus all my sponsors that have put their faith in me again this season especially Teccare.”

It was a varied weekend for youngster Josh Daley at the final round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch. The 18-year-old gained 11th in the opening Evo Supersport results and a bike problem saw Josh retire on Sunday.
Once again the weather at Brands Hatch took a turn for the worse each morning and the track was wet for many of the Supersport sessions. Josh wanted to ensure that his final race weekend this season went without any trouble.
His times once again improved in every session and he ended up 10th fastest Evo rider and placed 25th on the main grid. He got a really good start and by lap three he was sixth Evo rider in the wet conditions. As the track slowly dried out Josh had a few passes made on him but still brought the bike home in a good 11th place.
His second race on Sunday was a little short lived; he got a good start but soon started to drop back through the pack. The bike was over heating and losing power and to avoid pushing and blowing the engine Josh took the sensible option of retiring to the pit lane.
Josh Daley – “It was not the way I wanted to end the season, retiring from the race but I didn’t want to do any damage to the bike so I had no other option. Up to that point in the weekend I was really happy with the way things were going and managed to go quicker than what I did here when we came in July.
I have made huge improvements this year and despite a few small crashes I have learnt so much and want to continue with that next season. It has been a huge challenge for me but I’ve really enjoyed every part of it.
A big thank you must go to Nick Wilkinson at Fleetsmart, Steve Buckenham at Morello Services and Keith and Lorna Main for their help in making this round possible plus all my other sponsors throughout the season. BILLY McCONNELL IS CROWNED BRITISH CHAMPION
Billy McConnell had to dig deep in his resolve to finally be crowned the Motorpoint British Supersport Champion. The Aussie had a difficult final round weekend at Brands Hatch but riding measured races he racked up enough points, with ninth and eighth place finishes, to take the title for the Smiths Triumph team.
McConnell said: “It’s been a stressful last couple of rounds but to finally win the British Championship is brilliant and I was crying my eyes out on that final lap. I’ve come so close in recent years and it’s probably why my results haven’t been the greatest in the final races as I wanted it so bad.
“I’ve got a fantastic team behind me and we’ve been consistent over the 12 rounds whilst I’ve had a fantastic team-mate pushing me all year so I feel for Graeme. It’s a shame he went out early and that little bit of extra luck that you need was on my side this weekend. I’ve been in the top three for the last five years so to win at last is amazing and very emotional,” added McConnell
McConnell’s team-mate Graeme Gowland, who crashed out of the Feature race, lost out in the scrap for runner-up position in the standings to MarTrain Yamaha’s Alastair Seeley.
The Ulsterman took a second place to Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin in the Sprint race and then enjoyed an eighth victory of the campaign in the final race of the season to move within four points of McConnell.
Josh Day, riding the Ruby Racing Triumph, took a double victory in the Supersport EVO category.
