Pirelli Continues Motorcycle Testing Week At DIS DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. For the fourth straight day, the sound of motorcycles is roaring from inside historic Daytona International Speedway with Pirelli tire testing in preparation for the Daytona 200 Week By Honda on March 1-10. Following three days of Dunlop tire testing, Pirelli-supported teams began a two-day tire test at the “The World Center of Racing.” Among the riders and teams in attendance for the Pirelli tire test include Team M4 EMGO Suzuki and riders Michael Barnes, Michael Beck and Geoff May; Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki and rider Chris Ulrich; Attack Performance Kawasaki and riders Steve Rapp and Ben Attard; Team Fast By Ferracci and riders Matt Lynn and Luca Scassa; Moto Uno’s Taylor Knapp, Gustavo Laya and Tony Meiring; Team Longevity and rider Barrett Long; and Team Hotbodies and rider Cory West. “It’s going great so far,” said May during the lunch break. “The weather is cooperating and we’re plugging away. We’ve got 20 different rear tires that I have to try with this session and get in as much information as we can. We’ve got two guys from Pirelli Italy who make tires for World Superbike and they’re working with me today to make a Superstock race winning tire.” May, who is testing Supersport and Superstock machines, has been atop the speed charts throughout Thursday’s testing session. The Georgia rider and former AMA Superbike Rookie of Year is hoping to return to DIS in March vying for victories and podium finishes. “Winning at Daytona has been one of my goals since I started racing,” May said. “This place is like Mecca for me. It’s huge like winning the Super Bowl. All winter this is what you think about coming to Daytona. You don’t even think about the rest of the season, it all about Daytona.” The Pirelli tire test concludes on Friday and the session is free and open to the public with access to the Oldfield Grandstand available through DAYTONA USA.
