West Rules the East and Barnes Charges to the Front for Pirelli at Daytona

DAYTONA, Fla. (October 18, 2016) – Pirelli claimed several victories at the Championship Cup Series Race of Champions over the weekend and would like to congratulate the riders on their incredible feats. Cory West piloted his Froggymoto.com/Pirelli BMW S1000R to a hard-fought win in the ASRA SuperStock race using Pirelli’s DIABLO™ Superbike SC1 front and Daytona spec rear tires.

“This weekend was very exciting for the Pirelli brand,” said Oscar Solis. “We’re ecstatic to garner these great results, including wins in several categories, at one of the most challenging circuits around the world. The results confirm the performance capability of Pirelli’s tires at the highest level of racing.”

In the ASRA Sportbike class, Michael Barnes lined up to take the start and the anxiety of the race caused “Barney” to jump before the green flag was waved, resulting in a false start. Barnes, who was riding aboard a Palm Beach Police Association/Prieto Performance Yamaha R6, put his head down and opened a comfortable lead before pulling in for a pit stop and serving his penalty for jumping early on the green flag. Once back into the race, he was able to click off strong, consistent laps and managed to recover for the win. Barnes noted “the tires were perfect” as he credited the performance of Pirelli’s DIABLO™ Supercorsa SC1 and Daytona spec tires on the podium.

West returned to the starting grid in the CCS Unlimited GP and continued his impressive riding by recording the fastest lap of the weekend with a 1:46.525. He would go on to claim another victory using the DIABLO Superbike SC1-Daytona tire combination.
