AFTER MECHANICAL PROBLEMS IN 600 SPORTBIKE, SZOKE TAKES THE WIN IN CANADA SUPERBIKE AT RACE CITY SPEEDWAY Calgary Alberta Parts Canada Superbike Round 3 After setting two lap records while landing both pole positions, you would (like to) think that Sunday’s finals should be less dramatic. However this is racing and Sundays have a will of their own. Morning warm up practice went off with no issues. The Kawasaki ZX6RR in Hindle PRO 600 Sportbike last lap qualifying ‘burble’ that the team thought might be a fuel starvation issue as the fuel level got low in qualifying (they carry minimum fuel load to keep the weight down) ran well in the 20 minute Sunday morning practice, but Jordan knew he had serious issues in the race warm up lap right away as they came to the grid for the start, but was unable to do anything about it once on the grid. The race was red flagged on the first lap due to an incident, providing the Kawasaki Canada Racing team to repair the problem. Even with the mad scramble to get the ZX6RR repaired, the problem plagued Jordan throughout the race, forcing Jordan to turn off the bike and restart it several times per lap to keep the engine running at close to full power. This tactic slowed his times down significantly, but Jordan knew he had to keep running to protect his Championship points lead. He finished a very disappointing 11th, but if you want to look deep for good news, it is that he still holds the Hindle PRO 600 Sportbike Championship points lead by 1 point. Jordan has 128 and Clint has 127. The race was won by Kevin Lacombe with Clint McBain in second and Kawasaki team mate Tom Kipp in third. With the disappointment the team was feeling over the 600 race, the focus returned for the parts Canada Superbike Championship and the Kawasaki Canada Racing team had Jordan’s ZX10R ready for race and Jordan’s concentration was somehow bolstered as he needed to prove his was still the fastest rider out there. Right from the start of the 20 lap Superbike final, Jordan was locked into a battle with Clint McBain, and the pair broke away from the pack but never from each other. Clint led the first half of the race, when Jordan got by him and attempted to break away from Clint but was unable to do so. Clint got by Jordan once again with the two running very close through lapped traffic until Jordan was able to retake the lead on the final laps and hold onto it for his third consecutive Superbike victory this year. Clint McBain finished in second with Kevin Lacombe in third. Jordan now has 160 points to Kevin Lacombe’s 119 and Francis Martin’s 112. Round 4 for the Parts Canada Superbike Championship returns to Ontario in two weeks travelling to Mosport Park near Bowmanville, one of Jordan’s favourite tracks. Race dates are July 14-15.
