TEAM VELOCITY RACING EARNS TWO PODIUMS AGAIN IN WERA ENDURANCE AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK, LEEDS, Ala. 

Team Velocity Racing found themselves on the podium again during last weekend’s WERA National Endurance Series race at Barber Motorsports Park, with both teams finishing in the top three of their respective classes. Chuck Ivey and Andrew Nelson crossed the finish line with a third-place finish in the Heavyweight Superstock class on the Team Velocity Racing Yamaha YZF-R1. Steven Breckenridge, James Stroud and Joshua Day earned a finish of second in the Mediumweight Superstock class, riding the TVR II Yamaha YZF-R6.

 The Mediumweight Superstock race was a close one, and TVR II battled with eventual class winners Dalke Motorsports throughout the race. In the fourth and final hour, TVR II had the lead but needed to come into the pits one last time. The pit stop allowed Dalke to get past for first in class, and TVR II finished a slim 2.778 seconds behind after four hours of racing. Team Velocity Racing finished seventh overall, while TVR II was sixth in the field of 44 teams. Now the pressure is on for both teams to have a flawless race during the final round at Road Atlanta next month. 

“We had disappointing losses at Barber,” commented team owner Ivey. “With our expectations set on winning, second and third aren’t acceptable to us. We’ll go back to the shop and prepare for the Grand National Finals at Road Atlanta, and we’ll come back ready to win both classes.” The team also noted that quick pit stops will be a key factor in their chase for not only two wins, but two class championships. 

“Obviously we want to get the victory and the championship at Road Atlanta,” said Day. “We’ll be working extra hard between now and then so we can be in good shape and stay on the pace. We also need to practice our pit stops so they can be as quick and flawless as possible.” 

“There’s definitely pressure on us,” said Stroud of the final round. “But we have a really good package and everyone rides well. We just need to avoid the mistakes we made here- there were mistakes by all of us. We have to try to do the same things we’ve done in the past to put us at the front.”
