Magruder takes stock Daytona 675 to the podium

Rosamond, CA The Pirate Motorsport Race Team’s third weekend with the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club’s Streets of Willow Race Series, went extremely well with multiple podium finishes. Lloyd Magruder finished 2nd in all three races he entered, but the surprise came in the 750 Modified Production race. Riding a bone stock (including California emissions) 2006 Dunlop shod, Triumph Daytona 675 against race prepped 636’s and Suzuki 750’s, Lloyd was able to sweep through the field clicking off consistent 1 minute 20 second lap times, with a best of 1:20.414. After starting dead last, and catching eventual winner Ricky Herd, Lloyd finished just 2 tenths of a second behind, as a red flag stopped the race on lap 6.

“I didn’t know what to expect from the Triumph, having never ridden it before this weekend, but the Triumph is a really amazing bike right out of the crate! We just safety wired the bike, threw some white duct tape and numbers on it, and used the stock bodywork with a turkey baster pan as our belly pan. Unfortunately, we ran into an issue on Sunday morning when we were forced to use a 195 rear slick, as Dunlop was out of 180 rear tires. We had been using a 180 rear for Saturday practice, so this meant a complete crap shoot with setup for the race. My mechanic Blair Ramey with guidance from my crew chief Craig Ramey, and input via phone from Robert Ward of Wilson’s Motorcycles in Fresno, CA, we were able to create a setup that really worked well for the race. I can’t thank my team enough for getting this bike race prepped in such a short amount of time and Robert Ward for his insight on geometry setup. We will be racing the Triumph in more 750 classes next month and then racing it full time in 2008.”

The Pirate Motorsports Team will be finishing off the Streets of Willow Championship season November 2nd through the 4th, looking to wrap up the 600 Modified Production and Formula II series championship on their 2003 Kawasaki ZX-6RR, and take wins in 750 Superbike and 750 Modified Production on the Triumph Daytona 675.
