From a press release issued by Evan Steel Performance: Evan Steel Performance traveled from Tucson, Arizona to California Speedway in Fontana, California, to give their new rider Chris Peris(21) some time on the ESP Suzuki GSX-R1000. Peris entered the WERA A Superbike and Formula One classes, winning them both from the fourth and fifth rows, respectively. Fontana marks Peris’ second time aboard the ESP Suzuki, the first ride coinciding with the annual Daytona Dunlop test, and the team continues to improve and develop. “We went to Daytona with an almost stock bike,” Steel said, “but since then engine builder Phil Allison had time to build some horsepower. We were on track with some fast bikes this weekend and our package is starting to look pretty good. Phil has some ideas with compression and cam timing that we’ll put together for our next test.” Steel and Allison, along with racer Scott Bergen (who won the season-opening CCS Southwest Region Unlimited GP and Open Superbike classes this same weekend in Phoenix, AZ on an ESP bike), operate ESP out of Tucson, Arizona, and have signed with Peris and teammate Tom Savoca to run all the AMA Nationals. Peris plans to run Superstock and Superbike after successfully campaigning Yamaha’s R6 in the US, Canada and the Supersport World Championship. The team has help from Dunlop, Attack Performance, Ohlins, GPR, Driven and Maxima Oil, this conglomerate coming together in an effort to make Peris’ first big-bike season a success.
