Triumph Announces Inaugural Thruxton Cup Challenge Champion Ted “Cannonball” Cobb Thrills Crowd With Cup Win (Pueblo, CO) – Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd. announced that Cumming, Georgia’s Ted “Cannonball” Cobb, won the inaugural Triumph Thruxton Cup Challenge with a victory at Pueblo Motorsports Park in Colorado on September 11, 2005. Throughout the entire season, consistency was the name of the game, as Cobb racked up seven wins out of the first nine Thruxton Cup races. Cobb, who works as a Sales Manager for Moto Britalia explained, “This series is a great place to race the Thruxtons. The bikes are a blast to ride on the track and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to compete; anyone can do it! I would like to thank all my sponsors, Moto Britalia, Gemini International Inc., Arai, Bradsbikes.net, Spiegler, A Green Lawn, OFC Capital and last but not least Charlie Benton of Cycle Dynamics. A big thanks to Triumph as well, for providing my wife and me a trip to England and the $2,000 in cash for winning the Championship! I can’t wait to see the Triumph factory where all the beautiful bikes are made!” Triumph Motorcycles returned to the American roadracing scene this season with the successful launch of the Thruxton Cup Challenge as part of the American Historic Racing Motorcycles Association national schedule. AHRMA developed the series as a “spec” class race and the machines resemble the stock bikes sitting on the showroom floors. In an effort to keep costs down while maintaining a high level of competition, the series is exclusively limited to the Triumph Thruxton 900. The Thruxton captures the very essence of the café racer look the shorty-style front fender, rakish clip-on handlebars, distinctive seat hump and spartan elegance – and matches it to exhilarating, fluid performance. The Thruxton’s 865cc, twin cylinder power plant is the most powerful of Triumph’s twin-cylinder line up. Triumph specializes in building industry unique bikes and has defined an entirely new category in modern motorcycling with the Thruxton: Retro Sports. The first season of competition was an exciting one with motorcycle legends Gary Nixon and Jay Springsteen joining the fray along with a number of celebrity journalists, Triumph dealers, new riders, and experienced road racers. The Thruxton Cup Challenge will return for 2006 to the AHRMA National Series. Grids are anticipated to be just as big as the first season and the racing action promises to spawn some of the most exciting battles on American soil. For more information please visit www.AHRMA.org and see your local dealer for details. Triumph is offering an exclusive $800 rebate program for all U.S. customers who are interested in purchasing a new Thruxton 900 and racing in the AHRMA series. Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Triumph Motorcycles, Ltd., the manufacturer of Triumph motorcycles and accessories. Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd., is located in Newnan, GA and services the Triumph dealer organization throughout the United States and Canada.
