Roger was a lifetime member, #987, of the Mid-Atlantic Road Racing Club, MARRC, and recipient of the prestigious MARRC Cup. He served on the MARRC Board of Directors as secretary, vice president, and other positions for over 20 years, and was the chief instructor for the MARRC Safety Crew. Roger spent thousands of hours preparing documents and teaching proper cornerworking techniques to thousands of cornerworkers at Summit Point Raceway over the past 25 years. He worked the control tower at Summit Point. Roger proudly served MARRC and lived up to our motto, “Dedicated to the advancement of motorcycle road racing”. Roger also served on the board and was chief instructor with 2×4 Safety Services, a motorsports safety crew serving cars and bikes. Roger instructed the Daytona 200 Safety Crew for 10 years and taught the MARRC Safety Crew at the Charlotte Motor Speedway AMA National road races for bike week, July 4, 1990. Roger worked motorcycle and car races, from Summit Point Raceway with the MARRC Safety Crew and the Washington DC region SCCA to the Daytona 200 Safety Crew. He loved to flag those motorcycle races and vintage car races at Summit Point Raceway, Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, SCCA Runoffs and other tracks around the country. Roger Bacon is survived by his lovely wife Barbara, son David, daughter Bonnie, and many grandchildren. A final checkered flag will be presented to his wife Barbara, in loving memory from his family and friends in the motorsports community.
