RARE DEAD HEAT SHOWCASES TIGHT COMPETITION OF 125cc RACING Exciting riders, action of support class coming to Red Bull Indianapolis GP in August INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 – The 125cc class of the MotoGP World Championship always has featured close, intense racing. But the result of the German Grand Prix took close to a different level. Hector Faubel of Spain and Johann Zarco of France finished in a dead heat after 39 minutes and 57.979 seconds of competition in the 125cc race Sunday, July 10 at Sachsenring. Faubel was declared the winner due to rules stating dead heats are broken by awarding the victory to the rider with the faster race lap. It was just the eighth tie in any class since the Grand Prix World Championship for motorcycle racing started in 1949. The last dead heat came Oct. 2, 2004, also in the 125cc class, when current MotoGP stars Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso finished even in the Grand Prix of Qatar. Lorenzo was awarded the victory due to a faster race lap than Dovizioso. Faubel, Zarco and the rest of the 125cc field will compete Aug. 26-28 at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 23-lap 125cc race is one of four races scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28 on the 16-turn, 2.621-mile circuit at IMS.
