Alex Lyskawa, 13, on Londonderry, New Hampshire, was killed Monday as the result of injuries he suffered in a freak accident during the combined CCS/ASRA/USGPRU event held Memorial Day Monday, May 26 at Summit Point Raceway, in Summit Point, West Virginia. Lyskawa was racing his Honda RS125 in the CCS 125cc Grand Prix class, which was sharing the track with the Lightweight Formula 40 (Expert and Amateur) and the Ultra Lightweight Superbike CCS classes. “Coming out of Turn Three,” on the opening lap of the race, said CCS boss Kevin Elliott, “the bike in front of [Lyskawa] seized. As that guy tried to get off to the edge of the track Alex ran into the back of him. Then Alex was on the ground, and with the dust and everything and the arm-tucked-in-drafting, I can’t tell you how many bikes later it was, eight 15 bikes later, a guy dodges to the left and the guy who actually hit him looks up and has virtually nowhere to go. It was very unfortunate.” Lyskawa was pronounced dead at the scene with head and neck injuries. The track was shut down for two hours while West Virginia State Police conducted a thorough investigation. Lyskawa, an Amateur-licensed rider, finished first and second in the first two Loudon Road Racing Series 125cc GP races held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway so far in 2008. He finished seventh in the USGPRU 125cc GP race (Experts and Amateurs combined) at Road America in 2007. Lyskawa’s father Bruce Lyskawa, owner of the Bruce Transportation Group racing team, was at Summit Point Raceway at the time of the incident. Racer Brent Lyskawa, Alex’s older brother, was not racing at Summit Point.
