8 Hours At Daytona Entry List Taking Shape DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Oct. 12, 2006) — The 8 Hours At Daytona, the inaugural endurance motorcycle event for the new SunTrust MOTO-ST Series, is right around the corner and the entry list is beginning to take shape. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 beginning at 1 p.m. at Daytona International Speedway, the 8 Hours At Daytona will feature $100,000 in purse and lap money. The SunTrust MOTO-ST Series will kick off their 2007 inaugural season in March at DIS during Daytona 200 Week By Honda. Among the notable teams currently listed to compete in the 8 Hours At Daytona include: M4 EMGO Suzuki, which will put experienced AMA riders Michael Barnes, Geoff May and Chris Ulrich aboard a Suzuki 1000. John Ashmead, the last privateer rider to win the historic Daytona 200 By Honda, is entered with Old Pros Racing. He’ll co-ride a Suzuki 1000. Jimmy Filice, the legendary dirt and road racer and motorcycle Hall of Famer, is entered with the Pair A Nines team. He’ll ride a Kawasaki with Nick Cummings and Brian Stokes. Filice’s son, Justin, a promising young rider, will compete for the Old Pros Racing team with Ashmead and Paul Schwemmer. The 8 Hours At Daytona will have a European flavor with an all-Belgium team. Jeff Vermeulen, Hans Westra and Raoul Vermeulen will ride a Suzuki SV650 under the team name Ham & Cheese. The Spanish Ducati team of Dani Ribalta of Barcelona and Kenny Noyes, a Madrid-born American will compete under the Motorrad Ducati Madrid banner. Both are established endurance riders and both are among the top 10 in Spain’s premier road race series, Formula Extreme 1000cc. Popular rider Nicole Hoffman, who serves as manager of interactive marketing at NASCAR, will be back at her home track of Daytona International Speedway to compete in the 8 Hours At Daytona with experienced-endurance racers Mark Crozier and Nathan Dressman. She’ll co-ride a Suzuki 650 under the TeamHurtByAccident.com banner. All-time Daytona 200 By Honda mileage leader Rick Shaw will co-ride a Suzuki 1000. San Jose BMW will enter a BMW 1200 with veteran riders Brian Parriott, Nate Kern and Stephan Mertens of Belgium. Teams will be required to use a minimum of two and a maximum of three riders in the inaugural 8 Hours At Daytona and all subsequent SunTrust MOTO-ST events. The race will feature three classes of sport twin motorcycles: SuperSport Twins (SST), GrandSport Twins (GST) and Sport Twins (ST). The 8 Hours At Daytona will finish under the lights making it the first nighttime motorcycle race at DIS since the 1985 Paul Revere 250.
