INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, July 24, 2008 Twenty of the world’s best young motorcycle racers will compete in the Red Bull Riders Cup, a special event during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Riders Cup is a team event that pits North and South America and the Caribbean against the rest of the world. Squaring off will be the top 10 riders in the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup point standings and the top 10 in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup points. The top 15 finishers in the race will score points for their team, and the team with the highest point total will claim the Red Bull Riders Cup. A final Riders Cup rematch will take place between the teams Oct. 25 at Valencia, Spain, with the winning team at Valencia carrying the trophy into 2009. The Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup and MotoGP Rookies Cup are unique programs for fostering motorcycle talent in promising young riders ages 13 to 16 who compete on actual road racing circuits in front of race day crowds, on identical KTM 125cc bikes and under identical conditions. The U.S. series features riders from North and South America and the Caribbean; the MotoGP series includes riders from the rest of the world. Rosters for the Red Bull Riders Cup event at IMS will be set in August. The final race in the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup before the Red Bull Riders Cup race at IMS is Sunday, Aug. 31 at Road Atlanta. The season finale for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic. Red Bull Indianapolis GP tickets: Tickets are on sale for the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Sept. 14, 2008.
