Yamaha factory superbike rider Jason DiSalvo will join Racing 2 Save Lives for the organization’s second annual charity fundraising track day event at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Va., on August 11-14. DiSalvo will take part in R2SL on Tuesday, August 12, and Wednesday, August 13, prior to racing his Yamaha R1 Superbike in the American Motorcyclist Association Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals the following weekend at VIR. R2SL participants will have the opportunity to bid online for a once-in-a-lifetime, hour-long, one-on-one coaching session with DiSalvo on VIR’s South Course. Two sessions will be up for auction on R2SL’s website (www.racing2savelives.org), beginning Monday, July 21. The auctions will close Monday, August 4. DiSalvo, who in the past has acted as a guest instructor at Freddie Spencer’s High Performance Riding School, will also join R2SL’s volunteer staff of rider coaches, tapping into his six seasons as a Yamaha factory rider to help both novices and experienced riders learn the intricacies of the VIR track. “I truly believe in what R2SL does for children’s charities,” said DiSalvo, who currently lies fifth overall in the AMA Superbike Championship. “It’s a great way for motorcyclists to give back to the community. I’m happy to help R2SL achieve its goals, and to help riders improve their skills.” Founded in 2004, Racing 2 Save Lives organizes track-day events at racetracks where riders can safely explore the potential of their bikes in a noncompetitive setting, while raising funds for a variety of carefully selected children’s charities. R2SL events comprise not only on-track sessions, but coaching for first-time track riders, a silent auction, and celebrity guest riders like DiSalvo. Proceeds are donated to carefully selected children’s charities in the communities that R2SL visits. Riders wishing to take part in R2SL at VIR can register online at www.racing2savelives.org. While on-site registration will be available during the VIR event, participants save $25 if they register in advance. More information is available on the website, or by calling (303) 767-RACE. Following R2SL at VIR, on the weekend of August 15-17, the track hosts the AMA Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals race weekend. Information and tickets for the AMA races are available at www.moto1usa.com. R2SL’s most recent event, at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park on July 3-6, attracted more than 150 participants, who helped R2SL donate some $30,000 to charities that included the Make-A-Wish foundations of Utah and Colorado, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Larry H. Miller Charities. Racing 2 Save Lives is a 501(c)3 charity that operates unique track-day events for motorcyclists, with proceeds donated to deserving children’s charities in the communities where R2SL takes place. Since its founding in 2004, R2SL has donated over $230,000 to charity.
