TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (June 30, 2009) “” Motorcycle enthusiasts from Utah and throughout the western United States will be able to ride their bikes at America’s premier road racing facility and support a worthy cause at the same time when Racing 2 Save Lives (R2SL) returns to Miller Motorsports Park this weekend, July 3-5. R2SL is a 501(c)3 charity that brings together motorcyclists to help raise funds for children’s charities in Colorado and Utah. Utah charities that have benefited from previous R2SL events include Larry H. Miller Charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah; Tooele County Children’s Justice Center; Tooele Kiwanis Baby Cupboard; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; and a host of other worthwhile organizations. Founded in 2004, R2SL provides motorcyclists the opportunity to safely explore the performance potential of their bikes in the controlled environment of a racetrack, but without the pressure of competition. Over the course of three days, R2SL comprises not only on-track riding sessions, but coaching for first-time track riders, two-up rides and a silent auction. Three three-hour on-track sessions will be held each day, starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m., affording riders of all skill levels unparalleled amounts of track time. This year’s event will include, for the first time, a four-hour endurance race starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a limited supply of rental gear available through Utah Sportbike Rentals for riders who need it. In addition, Miller Motorsports Park’s new motorcycle school, the Yamaha Champions Racing School, will provide low-cost classroom and on-track instruction throughout the event, two-up rides around the track with instructors Shane Turpin and Mark Schellinger for those looking for a unique experience or an invaluable learning experience, contributions to the R2SL Silent Auction, a donation to the charity and a 20-percent discount to registered R2SL participants in the July 6-7 Yamaha Champions Riding School class. Racing 2 Save Lives was the first public event held at Miller Motorsports Park following its opening in 2006, and since that time the event has attracted over 500 participants, some from as far away as Canada and England, and raised $170,000 for the various charities it supports. “Racing 2 Save Lives is an outstanding organization that illustrates the very best of the sport of motorcycling by creating an event to raise funds for children’s charities while offering riders a track day outing in a safe environment,” said Miller Motorsports Park Senior Vice President and General Manager John Larson. “We are proud to be their partners in this effort, and we look forward to another great event this year.” “With our fourth event at Miller Motorsports Park, we are excited to be returning to one of the most amazing tracks in the world for such a great cause,” said Racing 2 Save Lives President and Executive Director Ralph Forsythe. “Our events have achieved a reputation for safety, fun and a positive impact on the community, and this promises to be one of our best yet. With the addition of a four-hour endurance race to our schedule, we’ve added a bit of fun competition as well.” Miller Motorsports Park has elected to waive admission fees for spectators at the event in lieu of donations to Racing 2 Save Lives. The Miller Karting Complex will be open throughout the weekend offering concession kart rentals, and the Ace Café will be open for food service.
