DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two weeks ago, the AMA Pro SuperSport riders competed in a two race shootout for the two titles of SuperSport Young Gun and Top Gun National Champions. But also up for grabs were the generous awards provided by Liquid Performance for the pole position winner and also the rider who led the most laps over the course of the weekend’s two races. The Liquid Performance AMA Pro SuperSport National Championship Pole Award and Liquid Performance AMA Pro National Championship Most Laps Led Award were awarded on Monday night at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum during the season-ending AMA Pro Road Racing Awards banquet. Each recipient was presented with a check for $1,000 by Sam Pearce, co-owner of Liquid Performance. Liquid Performance produces a number of appearance, maintenance and performance products for cycles, marine use and RVs. Headlining their performance product mix is their new Ice Water Non-Glycol Racing Coolant that is used by many of the AMA Pro Road Racing competitors. It was no surprise when eight-time 2010 SuperSport race winner J.D. Beach took the pole position for the big weekend. J.D. had taken the Young Gun East Division championship on his Rockwall Performance Yamaha and he laid claim to the Liquid Performance Award by posting a very quick time of 1:29.660 around the 2.38-mile, 14-turn natural road course on his way to the pole position and the $1,000 check. With a record like J.D.’s it would be easy to assume he went on to take the Most Laps Led Award but in a class where there were six different race winners this season, the Liquid Performance money was truly up for grabs. After two very different days of racing, it was LTD Racing Yamaha rider Huntley Nash that took the Liquid Performance Most Laps Led Award by leading 21 of the combined 34 laps over the course of the two races. Huntley won the first race in dramatic style after J.D. and a number of other riders had miscues. In Sunday’s race number two, wet conditions made things even more interesting. Huntley was able to lead the first six laps and he looked like he was on his way to winning the Most Laps Led Award and also the Young Gun National Championship but it wasn’t to be when he got caught out by the conditions and fell, which then cleared the way for pole position winner J.D. Beach to go on to take the win. But with West Division Young Gun champion Joey Pascarella leading only two laps on his DNA Energy Drink Yamaha, Huntley was the clear winner of the Liquid Performance Award for $1,000. Both J.D. and Huntley received their checks on Monday night from Liquid Performance owner Sam Pearce and each expressed their gratitude for the valuable support.
