Daytona Beach, Florida: Bike Week 2011 Marks 70th Anniversary: The 70th Anniversary of the “World’s Largest Motorcycle Event” will be held March 4th through March 13th as Bike Week 2011 roars into Daytona Beach. The significance of the 70 year anniversary and the heritage that accomplishment invokes is reflected in this year’s new logo, which has a decidedly retro 1940s look and feel. This year’s design comes courtesy of Hayworth Creative and Public Relations. This year’s event will also be highlighted by the continued resurgence of the historic downtown area, as Harley-Davidson Motor Corporation stages their new product show in Riverfront Park in Downtown Daytona Beach. In addition to H-D’s new models, visitors will enjoy a litany of custom Harleys and a partnership with Daytona Harley-Davidson; all in an open-air venue. Steve Piehl, Harley-Davidson’s Director of Customer Experience, voiced his enthusiasm, “Last year was our first effort with an outside venue in Daytona Beach and it was a huge success with both our customers and our staff. We’re excited to be downtown again and to help make it, along with Main Street, a hub of Bike Week activity. The Motor Company has been a partner with Daytona Beach and sponsor of Bike Week for over 20 years. We’re happy to continue that tradition in 2011 and are always happy to hear the rumble of those Harleys while we are there.” Additionally, motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world are now downloading THE NEW 2011 Daytona Bike Week iPhone App! We expect thousands will download the app in the next few weeks leading up to the event. Not only will people use the app to plan what to do when in Daytona Beach, they will also use it upon arrival. With Iphone’s GPS ability, it will give you directions from their exact location too! Activities in Riverfront Park will include live bands, motorcycle stunt shows, food, vendors and manufacturer’s displays. In addition, the park will again host the Official Bike Week Welcome Center. Racing activities at the Daytona International Speedway will kick off with the Daytona Supercross, America’s toughest and most demanding Supercross event, to be held on Saturday night, March 5th. This year’s Bike Week will also feature the 70th Daytona 200, the prestigious season-opening event to the AMA Pro Racing season and the most historic motorcycle race in America. Previously held on the Friday night of the second weekend of racing, this year the Daytona 200 will return as a daytime race to be held on Saturday, March 12th. The Speedway will also feature free demo rides and displays from top manufacturers, overnight camping and food and live entertainment. Additionally, the tradition of the Budweiser Clydesdales visit during Daytona Beach Bike Week will continue as these majestic animals once again parade down Main Street during two showings on Saturday, March 5th and Sunday, March 6th. Both appearances are scheduled for 12 Noon and are expected, once again, to draw large crowds of enthusiastic onlookers. The combination of machine and beast is a unique spectacle and one that few ever get to experience. Bike Week Festival Task Force Co-Chairman Bob Coleman weighed in on this year’s event, “The 70th Anniversary marks a proud milestone in the history of Bike Week in Daytona Beach, and the variety of activities available to our visitors is a culmination of those years. From the historic Main Street and Beach Street Area to Biking on the Boulevard, Destination Daytona, Daytona International Speedway, Riverfront Park in downtown Daytona Beach and, of course, the World’s Most Famous Beach.
