Familiarity with Road Atlanta should breed success for points leader Wyman ATLANTA (April 19) — The AMA Road Racing series last visited Road Atlanta in April of 2010, but it hasn’t been nearly that long for KLR Group Harley-Davidson rider Kyle Wyman, who believes a race he contested at the track late last fall could be a key advantage for him at this weekend’s Triumph Big Kahuna Nationals. “I raced the Grand National Finals here in October so I got a ton of laps in just recently compared to almost everyone else,” said Wyman, the current points leader in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 class. “I don’t think most of the riders have seen this place since the AMA was here in 2010. That should really play to my advantage.” After dominating Daytona with a No. 1 qualifying effort and a win on race day, Wyman would be considered a favorite this weekend no matter what his past history was with the 2.55-mile, 12-turn race course in the rolling hills of north Georgia. The fact this is the 22-year-old New Yorker’s favorite track is merely a bonus. “I’m so glad Road Atlanta is back on the schedule,” Wyman said. “To me, there isn’t a better track in the world. I just love this place. “There is such a wide variety of corners, there are long straightaways, there are areas that require heavy downhill braking, there are lots of elevation changes and the esses are wicked — this place has it all. It’s a true challenge for the riders and that’s what makes it so exciting.” It’s been a busy month for Wyman. Since his successful season-opening event in Daytona, he has taken part in a test session at Homestead-Miami Speedway — where he once again had the fastest bike — and landed a new title sponsor in the KLR Group, a full service investment bank focused on the natural resources sector, including oil and gas, metals and mining, and agriculture. He’s also become a spokesperson for the Progeria Research Foundation (PRF), the favored charity of the KLR Group. Progeria is a rare, fatal, “rapid aging” disease that afflicts children, who usually die of heart disease by the age of 13. “We’re beyond excited about joining the KLR Group and GK Motorsports,” Wyman said. “We have lots of exciting things coming in the weeks ahead and it’s awesome to start our partnership this weekend in Atlanta. “I’m committed to introducing and educating road racing fans about Progeria and the Progeria Research Foundation. We already have plans to host some kids during the Road America race in early June in Wisconsin and we hope to add a bunch more events this year. I’ll also be filming some Public Service Announcements for Progeria so that will help raise the profile of both the PRF and AMA Road Racing. It’s very cool.” Aside from defending his points lead in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series, Wyman will be riding a Triumph in the Daytona SportBike class at this event. Racing action gets underway at noon Friday at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. More, from a press release issued by BYR/Fogi Racing Development Team: Ben Young to Get Back On Track at Road Atlanta THORNBURY ONTARIO, CANADA April 19, 2012 After a determined 20th place finish at the 2012 Daytona 200, BYR/Fogi Racing’s Ben Young is ready to get his Tim Hortons-Sudbury/Yamaha R6 back on track this coming weekend as AMA Pro Road Racing returns to Road Atlanta for the Big Kahuna Atlanta. Although the 18-year-old’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike debut at the Daytona 200 was not the result he was aiming for, Young is eager to refocus his efforts and show what he can do on Road Atlanta’s 2.55 mile natural terrain road course. This will be Young’s first visit to the historic Road Atlanta road course. From Scotland’s Knockhill Racing Circuit to Road America, where he had achieved five podiums competing in the USGPRU series, he has shown an ability to quickly adapt to new tracks and he will tackle learning the Road Atlanta circuit using the same strategies that have brought him success in the past. “While racing in the Daytona 200 was certainly a highlight of my career, my riding style is more suited to technical natural tracks like Road Atlanta,” stated the young Scottish-Canadian rider. “We’ve also made some progress with my Tim Hortons-Sudbury/Yamaha R6 over the past few weeks and I expect my results from this coming weekend will show this. Leading up to this coming weekend’s Big Kahuna Atlanta race Young took some time to talk with local TV sports show Simcoe County Sports as well as Erik Tomas host of the Raceline Radio Network, Canada’s first and only nationally syndicated motorsport radio program. Both interviews are posted on Ben Young’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BenYoungRacing and at www.fogi.us. Although the second round of the AMA Pro Road Racing season will include a few career firsts for the young resident of Thornbury Ontario Canada, this weekend’s race will conclude the two-race Title Sponsorship program with Tim Hortons-Sudbury. “It’s truly been an honour to feature the iconic Tim Hortons brand and represent Gilles Bolduc’s Sudbury franchise at the Daytona 200 and this coming weekend at Road Atlanta.” said the pilot of the Tim Hortons-Sudbury/Yamaha R6. “Gilles’ support has been instrumental to getting our season rolling and Ben and I can’t thank him enough for not only his support but his hands-on assistance in the pits at Daytona as well as helping us explore opportunities for the remainder of the season.” added Team Manger Scott Young.
