ERION HONDA RIDERS READY FOR VICTORY Orange, Calif — Ready for victory, Erion Honda stars Jake Zemke and Josh Hayes head for Road Atlanta and the Suzuki Superbike Showdown presented by Rockstar, August 29-31, in Braselton, Ga. Competing in both the AMA Formula Xtreme Series and the Pro Honda Supersport Championship presented by Shoei, aboard their Parts Unlimited, American Honda, Pro Honda Oils and Chemicals, Erion Racing Hondas, Zemke and Hayes have just one goal — to win. Zemke, who leads the Formula Xtreme points battle by a margin of 45 points. Is looking to cinch the championship at this round and to take his second win this season in the Pro Honda Supersport Series, where he sits in second place with two rounds left. Hayes, who took double-header wins at Virginia International Raceway two weeks ago and earned both victories at Atlanta last year, is determined to score a repeat performance “I’m looking forward to this event,” says Zemke. “They recently made some needed changes to the track and I think it is going to be good. They added a chicane in the Turn 4 esses and slowed the final corner way down, plus created a new angle. It is pretty much going to be like racing on a new track. Even though there is still one round left after Atlanta, I want to walk away from this one with the Formula Xtreme title. That would be awesome. My ideal scenario is to qualify well, get out in front of the pack and ride a nice lonely race to the Checkered. Hopefully luck will be on my side and it will work just the way I planned it. “Doing well at the last two races has really brought my confidence way up,” says Hayes with conviction. “I took both wins last year at this track and that, naturally, is my goal again. It might be a little tougher because of all the changes to the track. I really liked the old one. In fact, they took away some of my favorite parts. However, luckily for me, I like new tracks and tend to adapt very quickly. I think we are good to go.” There is no doubt as to the skill and talent of these two riders and of the entire Erion Honda crew. Headed by Kevin Erion, a former racer and AMA national title holder, and anchored by Technical Director Rick Hobbs, the Erion team has amassed an impressive win record over the years, one that will likely never be equaled, including six Formula Xtreme Championships between 1997 and 2007 (1997-2000, 2006, 2007), four consecutive Formula Xtreme titles from 1997 to 2000, two SuperTeams Championships in 1994 and 1996, a perfect season in 1999 (the team won all nine races) and back-to-back AMA 600 Supersport crowns in 1999 and 2000. And, if things go according to plan, they will shortly be adding their seventh AMA Formula Extreme title to their ever-growing list of accolades.
