Roadracingworld.com’s Chris Ulrich underwent surgery today at Dr. Art Ting’s clinic in Fremont, California to re-do repairs to a broken metacarpal bone in Ulrich’s left hand, injured in a crash during wet practice at Road America on June 5th. Initial surgery in Sheboygen, Wisconsin left the index finger on Ulrich’s hand rotated out of position and about half-an-inch shorter than it should be. Ting removed two pins placed by a surgeon in Sheboygen, repositioned pieces of broken bone and inserted a plate. Ulrich came out of surgery around 12:15 p.m. local time. The injury caused Ulrich to miss the June 8 AMA Superstock race at Road America, dropping him from 4th to 7th in series points. The loss of 11 healing days due to the required second surgery threatens Ulrich’s participation in the July 18-20 combined AMA and MotoGP weekend at Laguna Seca. More details will be posted as they become available.
