INJURY REPORT UPDATE Rich Oliver raced last weekend in the Roadracing World 250/50 where he was able to win, and in the Toyota 200 where he finished down in 32nd, all while being somewhat hampered by a sprained right knee from a training accident. After the race Rich was able to get an MRI scan and his Doctors were able to finally see the area in question. Rich gives us the lowdown, “It turns out that the ACL ligament has gone missing! They asked me if I had surgery on that knee before, because they couldn’t find the ACL. I never had surgery so they felt it must have been torn completely earlier in my career and been reabsorbed into my body some how. ‘There are also two really bad tears in the meniscus and a small fracture in the Tibia. They said that since the ACL has been gone, the knee has tracked badly and worn down to bone on bone in one place but it all can be fixed. ‘I’m going to have a donor ACL bolted in place in early October and the remaining damage scoped out by Doctor Ghazel, who has done some excellent work in me before. He’s the Doctor that rebuilt my damaged elbow from my Yamaha superbike days and made it work again. Heck, I was doing push ups 2 days after that operation so I plan on the same quick recovery again with his help. ‘I just wanted to let my friends out there know what was going on and tell them thanks for all the well wishes. It’s no big deal and I’ll be back to race in few months. Also I really have to thank everyone at Sierra Pacific Orthopedic Center and Doctor Tanner and Doctor Gahazel and their office staffs. If you ever need the best in body mechanics, go to them for the perfect re-build! ‘I have a couple opportunity’s to ride on occasion in another class and I’m going to pursue them as they become available. That will be really exciting for me and I’ll keep you posted!” For more information about Rich Oliver’s racing career, there is an updated on-line biography here: http://www.richoliver.net/RichOliverBio To find out more about Rich Oliver’s Mystery School, its courses and date offerings, visit http://richoliver.net or contact Rich Oliver at [email protected].
