Morello Racing sign Cox and Johnson for 2015 British Superbike challenge

The Morello Racing team have today announced their two-strong rider line-up for the 2015 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, signing Victor Cox and Daniel Johnson to campaign a pair of Kawasaki ZX-10Rs.

The Norwich based-team enjoyed a solid debut season with John Ingram in the 2014 series, the Wigan rider scoring a best result of 12th at Brands Hatch, and Steve Buckenham’s team now return with a double pronged attack.

Both riders move up from the Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship where they have a strong pedigree, in particular Trowbridge-based Cox who’s been a mainstay in the series since 2006. The 28-year old finished third overall in the 2012 series, taking three podiums and he matched that podium haul in 2013, also taking his maiden win at Oulton Park. In total, the former Virgin Mobile R6 Cup rider can boast eight podiums in the class and deservedly gets his chance in the BSB series after a few one-off outings in the past.

Johnson, meanwhile has been a highly consistent performer in the closely fought Superstock series since moving up from the MRO National series and joined the team mid-way through the 2014 season. The 28-year old Reading rider has taken no less than 16 top ten finishes in the last two seasons, finishing eighth overall in 2013, when he took a rostrum at Brands Hatch, and ninth overall in 2014.

In what promises to be an extremely busy year for the team, they will also have a strong presence once more in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship, fielding Ingram and new signings Josh Elliott, sixth overall in the 2014 series, and German newcomer Markus Guethner.

Victor Cox: “I can’t wait to get started in 2015 and I’m really pleased to be riding for Morello Racing. Steve, Chris and Donna have built up a great team and I’m delighted to be part of it. I’ve raced in the Superstock 1000cc class for a few years now but I really wanted to make that step up to British Superbikes so I’m very thankful to Steve for giving me this opportunity. I know we can do a great job and get some good results and I can’t wait to get started.”

Daniel Johnson: “I’m so pleased to be given this opportunity by Steve Buckenham and my personal sponsors to compete in the BSB class for Morello Racing in 2015. After winning the Bemsee MRO Rookie 600cc class in 2009, I never would have thought I could get an opportunity to compete in the most exciting championship in the world. With a great testing and fitness programme in place, I plan to keep my head down and do my talking on the track and prove my worth against some of the best riders in the world.”

Steve Buckenham, Team Owner: “I’m delighted to have both Victor and Danny out there on our Superbikes in 2015. I really enjoyed our first season in BSB and we learnt an awful lot so I’m really looking forward to next year. I’m sure both boys will do well in their first year in the British Superbike class and with three riders out in the Superstock 1000cc Championship too, it promises to be a strong year for Morello Racing.”
