We are steadily approaching to the Big Event of 14/16 May 2021, that will take place in Genoa, in recognition of Giorgio Parodi, founder of the historic “Moto dell ‘Aquila” motorcycle brand, celebrating the centenary of its foundation (Genoa, 15 March 1921); organizational activities are proceeding in a timely manner, and enriching with new chapters and important guests.
During the 31st January meeting between Marco Bucci, mayor of Genoa, and Lt. Gen. Alberto Rosso, Italian Air Force Chief of Staff, Giorgio Parodi from Genoa has been nominated a prominent institutional testimonial of his time; he’s been impeccable citizen, with his generous commitment, he was able to pair his profile of valiant highly decorated aviator in three wars with that, equally brilliant, of successful businessman and passionate flight and motorbike sportsman.
As such Giorgio Parodi was the co-founder in 1928 of the Aero Club in Genoa, one of the most ancient in Italy; he established and run a very valuable flying school which, amongst others, qualified Carina Negrone, the female pilot who established many air world records.
Just as the World War One top ace Major Francesco Baracca and his “prancing horse” has become a winning symbol of Enzo Ferrari’s “Scuderia” and his racing cars, similarly, Giorgio Parodi (and his trusted mechanic Carlo Guzzi) with his “motorcycle of the gold eagle” brought the value and values of the pilot from Genoa on the roads of the world for many years. And the golden eagle itself represents universally the distinguished symbol of the civilian, military and airlines pilots.
“Liguria has important aviation traditions mostly unknown,” said General Rosso. “I am convinced that remembering them together we shall offer a great opportunity to Genoa and all flight enthusiasts to live more intensely the events that we are organizing in the upcoming months, prompting young people to join the aviation world.”
It is certainly an invitation to rush to 2021 Genoa event that promises the best of what the Italian Air Force can nowadays field … in the air.
“Wish to warmly invite all Guzzi enthusiasts to be part of this great happening at the Porto Antico, the very heart of Genoa and the historic harbor of the ancient Republic, to pay tribute to Giorgio Parody, a great son of this land” – said Dr. Mauro Ferrando, the president of the Porto Antico SpA.
Works are in progress on the statue dedicated to the great pilot, carved by the artist Ettore Gambioli, already author of Carlo Guzzi’s monument, placed in the main square of Mandello del Lario. This will also be possible thanks to the contribution of partners such as the “Tuna Angelo Parodi”, whose founder was mentioned in the foundation act of the historic company, signed in Genoa on March 15th, 1921.
The statue will be positioned close to the place where that day the act was signed, in the notary Cassanello’s office, in the historic district of Carignano.
The Assessor for Great Events of Genoa Municipality Paola Bordilli declares: “Genoa is proud to celebrate its link with Giorgio Parodi and with the whole “eagle world”. We are working to offer a unique three-days event, just as our city is unique. ”
The Giorgio Parodi Association has formally started the registration for the GP days, open to everybody through the website www.giorgioparodi.it .
It is important to join because doing that it will be possible to support immediately the project of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Pavilion of the “Giannina Gaslini” Children Care Hospital: a simple but important gesture that will offer concrete help to young patients and allows those who have generously contributed to be presented with a nice small gift of the event, which promises to be truly one of a kind.
By registration an area dedicated to hospitality will be accessed, with proposals for every budget for motorcyclists and tourists through the support of Matitone Travel and Wonderful Italy; the e-shop has also been activated with an original collection of gadgets dedicated to GP.
The logo that will brand the event has been presented, Giorgio Parodi’s soul under the wings of the eagle of the pilot uniform, his two great passions: the motorbike and the aircraft.
Two historic events united in the sign of the eagle. We remember that Italian Air Force will celebrate its one hundred years of history on March 28th, 2023.
Certainly Giorgio Parodi, who has been nominated by the Air Force Association in Genoa as a strong testimonial of value and values of the Italian Air Force, will symbolically kick off a series of events that will mark the approach to its Centenary.
