DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 1, 2007) The countdown has begun and excitement is mounting as teams around the world prepare for the 8 Hours At Daytona Finale, October 19-20 at Daytona International Speedway. The final round in this year’s SunTrust MOTO-ST Series, this prestigious event is the one that every team wants to win. With $100,000 in purse money and valuable championship points on the line, the action will be fast and incredibly intense as teams take to the legendary 3.56-mile Daytona track, each determined to be the ones to earn the distinct honor of winning this season grand finale. Debuting last October, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series features three classes; The Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twins class (SST) which includes motorcycles producing between 90-118 horsepower, the BMW Grand Sport Twins class (GST) covering motorcycles producing 75-90 horsepower and Sport Twins (ST) for machines under 75 horsepower. At the end of the first 8 Hours it was Team San Jose BMW’s Brian Parriott, Nate Kern and Stephene Mertens who took top SST and overall honors by a margin of victory of 14.856-seconds. “And now we want to do it again,” echo both Parriott and Kern, who also have the distinction of being the very first team to enter. “It was definitely awesome to take the win at the inaugural SunTrust MOTO-ST 8 Hours At Daytona and what could be better than notching yet another victory this time out.” But it won’t easy as there are numerous other teams that all have the very same idea. Winning an endurance race is far different than a sprint race and in team competition numerous factors come into play. It is not simply a question of man and machine or who is the fastest rider or who has the better- prepped bike. Naturally those are key issues, but even more important is the ability of the entire team to work as a single unit”¦to be able to do lightening fast pit stops and to be able to make any necessary repairs extremely quickly. Many races are won in the pits and in fact, pit work is what San Jose BMW attributes to their victory at Daytona last year. “This is just a great series,” adds Pair-A-Nine’s ST team rider Jim Filice. “It doesn’t get any better than this. Both my teammate Jay (Springsteen) and I are really pleased to be part of the action. This has been a terrific first season. We’ve been lucky enough to grab three wins (Daytona, Homestead and Iowa), a second (Virginia) and a fifth (Road America) and hold the class lead. With a little luck we plan to land the ST championship at Daytona.” In GST the points are extremely close with four teams looking to take home the class crown. While there is no way to predict the outcome of a race, the one thing that can be predicted is the fact that the racing at the 8 Hours At Daytona will be some of the most exciting seen anywhere in the country.
