MOTO-ST Timing & Scoring A Disaster Saturday At Road America

MOTO-ST’s timing & scoring system is seriously malfunctioning during the first official practice for the series, being held in conjunction with an ASRA/CCS event at Road America. Impossible lap times and mis-recorded transponder numbers have made the lap times shown over the live timing feed provided by Professional Motorsports Productions inaccurate. The system is showing running order based on number of laps turned instead of fastest lap turned, and the fourth-fastest team, for example, is currently shown as 31st and is listed as UNK while another team turning lap times 10 seconds a lap slower is labeled with the fourth-fastest team’s rider names. A full 60 minutes after a team member physically brought the fourth-fastest team’s transponder to an official and explained the problem, it had not been fixed on the wireless pit-lane feed nor on the official MOTO-ST scoring monitor located on pit lane. PMP officials were on site Thursday and Friday at Road America but apparently did not test run and debug the system prior to the start of the first official MOTO-ST practice, a two-hour session scheduled at the end of the day Saturday. MOTO-ST was recently lauded in a national magazine as being the best-run motorcycle road racing series in the United States. The basis for that conclusion was not evident Saturday afternoon at Road America.
