Moto West GP is a new road racing series at the historic “Fastest Road in the West,” Willow Springs. The series was brought to life by Motoyard’s Greg Nulman to restore motorcycle road racing to this historic venue where the likes of Nicky Hayden and other top racers competed on their way to glory. The organization Moto West GP has now posted its rulebook for 2013 along with class structures and membership forms on their website. The forms are complete, but the rule book and class structure are still open for minor changes to cater to a majority of riders. We are pleased to announce that a three-race endurance championship will run along with the normal Moto West GP calendar events in April, May, and June. We are also introducing “Bracket Racing,” as a new race class. Similar to many drag racing events, riders will sign up for a specific bracket pledging that they cannot or will not go quicker than their bracket indicates. This unique style of racing offers racers a chance to compete alongside riders on an assortment of motorcycles that run similar lap times. Another new option is the “Run What Ya Brung” class, which was tested successfully at Motoyard’s Wild West Shootout in August of 2012. Moto West GP will offer this class to yet-to-be licensed riders who would like to get a taste of the racing excitement without the commitment of becoming a full-fledged racer. Working together with Motoyard, Moto West GP will encourage track day riders and street riders to get their feet wet with this entry-level racing class that is designed to be less intimidating. It’s a perfect class for the new racer to showcase their skills, compete in a friendly environment against their peers and take home a trophy or two. Rules will allow for more minor modifications to the motorcycles to make it an easy transition from the street to the track. The Moto West GP series will alternate between the 2.5-mile Big Track and the Streets of Willow course. Streets of Willow dates will also alternate between clockwise and counter-clockwise offering two different configurations. The endurance series will compete on each track with the sprint races. We have over 100 racers who have locked in their numbers for this season already, so please fill out your membership paperwork as soon as possible to lock in your number for the season. Membership is only $100, which is the most affordable licensing fee of any series in the Southwest that runs the full spectrum of sport bikes. Class entries are also very competitive with the details on our posted entry form. Moto West GP offers reciprocity to almost every established organization as well so if you currently hold a license with another organization, you would likely not need to complete the new racer school. Moto West GP has hired Lucky Management to organize the effort with a focus to provide a safe and fun race environment for racers in the Southwest to experience the unique qualities Willow Springs offers that no other track can provide. We encourage you to bring the kids or your significant other and to have a fun weekend going fast and spending quality time together. There are classes for every sort of machine you could want to race and often numerous classes the machine will be competitive racing in. In addition to the standard classes for bikes such as Ninja 250s, SV650s, 600cc bikes, and 1000cc bikes, we have an assortment of twins classes, vintage, Ladies class, and classes for racers over 40 or 50. Motoyard will be offering a track day on every Friday proceeding a race weekend for additional practice time for racers as well as practice for the new-comers. Visit www.Motoyard.com to sign up for their events. Come on out to Willow Springs and have a blast with us! March 9-10 – Big Track – Season opener April 13-14 – Streets of Willow (+endurance weekend) May 18-19 – Big Track (+endurance weekend) June 15-16 – Streets of Willow (+endurance weekend) (counter clockwise) July 13-14 – Big Track August 10-11 – Streets of Willow September 14-15 – Big Track October 12-13 – Streets of Willow – Championship finale (counter clockwise) If you have any questions about the series, rules, or are interested in promotional or partnership opportunities with the series, please contact [email protected]. www.MotoWestGP.com
