Moto West Grand Prix 2014 Season-Opener Set For This Weekend; New Formula One Sponsor On Board.

Moto West Grand Prix’s 2014 season kicks off this weekend with its opening event at Willow Springs International Raceway, and the series is welcoming Pacific Specialty as its sponsor for the premier Formula One class.

The California-based company provides insurance services for the powersports industry, and will post a $1,000 purse for the premier Formula One race, with the winner receiving $400 and payouts down to fifth place.

Moto West Grand Prix streamlined its rulebook and added new classes for 2014 as it prepared for its second season of racing in Southern California. The new rulebook is simpler to read, streamlines the machine preparation process, and makes it easier than ever to get into the most exciting sport in the world.

To accommodate the growing interest in electric machines, Moto West has created a new class for electric-powered bikes. To help continue to bring new riders into the sport, Moto West Grand Prix will run two heats for novice racers on the Sunday of each race weekend. Combined with the Saturday afternoon races, novice and casual racers will be able to take three green flags every race event. For the more seasoned rider, Moto West Grand Prix will offer a Formula 60 class for riders who are 60 and older on race day.

Returning in 2014 will be the popular Ducati Cup classes, as well as the Bracket classes, designed to let racers compete against others turning similar lap times, regardless of machine type. Also returning will be the popular Run What Ya Brung class for track day riders who want to give racing a shot.

The series will incorporate five races at the main 2.5-mile Willow Springs course – The Fastest Road In The West – and two at the tight, twisty 1.8-mile Streets of Willow circuit. In addition, Moto West Grand Prix will visit Buttonwillow Raceway Park for two rounds in 2014.

Come on out this weekend and take on the competition in the newest race series in the West!
