Uribe and Roberts will make their debut tomorrow at the 2017 Moto 2 European Championship

Great start for Joe Roberts at the FIM CEV Repsol, with the second row of the grid, while his team mate at the AGR, Jason Uribe, will start from the 5th row. The second session was the fastest of the two that took place today, both under the rain, but in that one our riders finished more than 2 seconds away from the poleman, Malaysia’s Syahrin, rider of the World Championship. His fastest time for the combined results were set in the first session.

The Argiñano & Ginés Racing Team at the Moto2 FIM CEV REPSOL has a full American flavour this season. Our riders, Jason Uribe (Angwin, 27/3/1999) and Joe Roberts (Los Angeles, 16/6/1997) face this season with a lot of motivation. Jason is already a veteran in our team, and Joe just joined to complete this powerful duet of Californian riders.

Despite being a new arrival, Roberts had a good practice in a circuit that he did not know before and under the rain. The second session was harder for our riders, as it was raining heavily at the beginning and going out on track was not worth the risk. They did half the laps than in the first session and, in fact, it was in the end, when the conditions were better, that the pole position time was set.

Preseason

Our two riders did, as the rest of the grid, two official preseason test in Estoril and Albacete. The Portuguese track, new in the calendar, was not new for Joe Roberts, who was among the best, as he remembered the track from his time in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. For Uribe, it was his first time in Estoril and, despite that, he finished only half a second away from his team mate in the AGR.

And on the track where we are competing this weekend, Albacete, the situation changed, as it was the first time for Joe Roberts and he focused on getting confidence with the front tyre, which has nothing to do with the ones he has been using at the Motoamerica. Roberts and Uribe finished the test with no crash and with just a few adjustments on the bike, as they aim was to do laps and get used to their bikes. The good atmosphere in the garage was easily seen during the preseason. So, the season looks good to the AGR.

Joe Roberts #27 Kalex Moto2 / 5th / 1.41.503 +0.485s (30 laps): “I think that this was a great Qualifying, taking into account that it is my first time on this circuit. I’m very happy because I’m close to the top riders under rain conditions, which I don’t think will be the same in the race. It will be interesting to ride on dry tarmac during the warm up to know where we are, because we’ve only ridden on wet tarmac here. Every time I get on the Moto2, I learn something, and I’m very happy with the work we’re doing”.

Jason Uribe #36 Kalex Moto2 / 13th, / 1.42.447 +1.429s (23 laps): “Both sessions went well, slowly getting the right pace during the first and convinced that we’re improving. During the second session it was raining heavily, so we stopped for 20 minutes and in the end, as others were improving their times, we went out on track, but we could not get the right pace. I’m confident for tomorrow”.

Classification of the FIM CEV REPSOL Moto2 in Albacete.

Tomorrow, the first race of the season will take place. The warm up will take 15 minutes and is starting at 9:15h. The 19-lap race will start at 13:00h. It can be followed at Movistar MotoGP or the Championship’s youtube channel.
