THE AGR RIDERS SHOW THEIR POTENTIAL IN ALBACETE WITH A TOP10

Roberts 8th in his debut and Uribe 10th in a race won by a World Championship rider

The Argiñano & Ginés Racing Team rider, Joe Roberts, finished 8th in his first race of the Moto2 FIM CEV Repsol at the Albacete Circuit. He started from the second row, but a mistake in the second corner made him lose two places. The rider from California was in the leading group but with a slightly slower pace so he slowly lost contact and rode for more than half the race alone, although he showed a great consistency with 33.6 in each lap. His result is very promision, although he needs to recover some tenths to be with the leaders, says his Technical Manager Chus Sánchez, but he is very motivated and has a lot of potential.

The same for Jason Uribe. Last year, the Californian did not finish this round. His performance today was also promising, as he finished in tenth place, improving 3 positions from his grid place and he fought for the 9th spot until the end. He ended just 0.3s behind the rider in front. He was even able to improve his pace by three tenths in the last laps. Uribe is more of a Sunday rider, as his Technical Manager Anscari Nadal says, and he saved two crashed in corner 4, as it could be clearly seen in his right boot.

The Moto2 warm-up session was not held completely on dry conditions, as there were still some pools, but they were the best conditions seen during the weekend up to that moment. Joe Roberts, our best placed rider on the grid, wanted to understand where he was on dry and he set the 4th fastest time, half a second behind Odendaal. Meanwhile, Jason Uribe, was 13th in the warm up, the same place he had on the grid.

The race was won by the Malaysian World Championship rider Syahrin. The AGR riders finished far from the top places (Joe 16 seconds away from the podium and Jason 26) but the results in Albacete mean points for the overall standings and a good base from which to build up and show Joe Roberts and Jason Uribe’s real level.

Joe Roberts #27 Kalex Moto2 / 8th: “Not a bad day for us. Got an eight position. Not exactly what I was hoping for but I made a few mistakes. It’s good blow off the cobwebs with the first race and I’ve learnt a lot about these guys as riders and what they do on the track. I’m going to think about it this month with this month gap until the next race and come back stronger. The warm up was difficult because there were some wet patches. It was difficult this race because the whole weekend we had rain and no dry practice. I think I just lack some experience but I’ll learn from this race and take it to Montmelo and have a good one there.

Jason Uribe #36 Kalex Moto2 / 10th: “Today went very well. I’m very happy with my finish in the race. First off, the warm-up was a little bit scary, I decided not to take any risks as I wouldn’t want to crash. Race time, I had a really good start but, unfortunately, I got pushed out wide at the entry to the very first corner, but after a couple of early passes on the first couple of laps a settle into a rhythm behind Fuligni and I paced him the entire race trying to pass him. When last lap came, I knew I had to make kind of a sketchy pass and I tried around the outside and started to lose the front so I decided it was better to finish 10th than crash trying to be 9th. Finished 10th overall and had a really good race. Thank you so much to the AGR team, they all worked super hard the whole weekend. Really excited for the next race.”
