Gino Rea is excited to compete at his home Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend after what has been a difficult season to date. With the home crowd on his side, Gino hopes to get into the points at one of his favourite circuits.

“I’d like to do well in front of the home crowd. Given the season we’ve had so far I’d be happy to get into the points this weekend. Of course, I’d love to finish top 10 or higher but we’ll have to see how it plays out and what the weather does.”

Rea enjoyed podium successes at Silverstone during his World Supersport days in 2010 and 2011 however the Londoner recognises that these moments will be difficult to replicate given how challenging the season has been so far for the AGT REA Racing team. The only American team in the MotoGP paddock have struggled all season to find a competitive set up with the Suter chassis as Gino explains:

“We’ve tried a slightly different rear set up in the last few races which seemed to be going in the right direction at Indianapolis but really didn’t work at Brno. We think we know the direction to go in order to fix this and we also have a slight modification to the front end of my bike for Silverstone. We will be starting from scratch a little bit but hopefully these things will improve the bike and we can close the gap to the leaders. I need to be able to qualify higher up because the times are so close. Every change and every tenth makes a huge difference in this category.”

The AGT REA Racing team will make their debut in front of the British fans on Friday 29th August at 10.55am in Moto2 Free Practice 1. Gino Rea will also be on stage tonight at 7.30pm for the Day of Champions event at Silverstone.
