After his MotoGP contract was not renewed by KTM for 2019 and beyond, Bradley Smith said he would rather retire than ride in any other series. But it turns out that Smith is now interested in racing in MotoAmerica Superbike in 2019.
On Thursday at Brno, Smith told Roadracing World that he has had a change of heart and feels he still has a lot to give to the sport. He said he could have a possible MotoGP test role next year, as well as possibilities in Moto2, and said his aim was to get back into MotoGP in 2020.
But when asked specifically on Friday if MotoAmerica was of interest, Smith said it was. He also revealed he had instructed his manager Bob Moore, (who works for WMG, or Wasserman Media Group, the management company that handles Smith’s business deals) to investigate options in the U.S.
Rhys Edwards, who also works for WMG, said at Brno that the Yoshimura Suzuki squad could be an option, with Smith replacing Roger Hayden, who has announced that he will retire from professional racing at the end of the 2018 season.
WMG also represents current MotoAmerica riders Mathew Scholtz and JD Beach.
