Local Riders Set to Compete as Professional Motorcycle Racing Returns to Sonoma Raceway
SONOMA, Calif. – Several Northern California riders will tackle the twists and turns of Sonoma Raceway this weekend when professional motorcycle racing returns to wine country, Aug. 11-13. Sonoma Raceway will host the seventh round of the MotoAmerica Championship, which will feature professional two-wheel racing in five classes with several local competitors.
Roseville’s Cameron Beaubier, currently third in Superbike points, is also a two-time and defending Superbike champion and looks for his first Superbike win in Sonoma. Beaubier’s younger brother, Ezra, will also compete for top honors in the Superstock 600 class. Stockton’s Bobby Fong, currently second in Superstock 1000 points, finished second in the 2016 Superstock 1000 title chase. This year he’s back with his Latus Racing Kawasaki and he’s shooting for one spot better.
Other local competitors set to compete this weekend include Bruce Bleecker (Danville, Supersport); Wyatt Farris (Calistoga, Superbike); Josh Herrin (Fresno, Superbike); Roi Holster (Napa, Superbike/Superstock); John Knowles (Modesto, Supersport); Jason Lauritzen (San Jose, Superbike/Superstock); Andrew Lee (Clovis, Supersport); Shelina Moreda (Petaluma, Supersport); Tyler O’Hara (Petaluma, Superbike/Superstock); Matthew Orange (Half Moon Bay, Superbike); Bryce Prince (Bakersfield, Superbike); Jayson Uribe (Napa, Supersport); and Marc Zarra (Vacaville, Supersport).
This event will mark the first time the MotoAmerica Series has visited the Northern California racetrack, but Sonoma has a long history of AMA Superbike racing dating back to 1977. The facility hosted annual AMA events from 1993-2012.
The weekend will include practice and qualifying on Friday, as well as two full days of racing—a doubleheader event—for the Motul Superbike, Bazzaz Superstock 1000, Supersport, and Superstock 600 classes on Saturday and Sunday, plus vendors and fun for the whole family. Sonoma will also host the KTM RC Cup, a spec class open to riders ages 14-22.
Single-day tickets are just $10 (Friday), $30 (Saturday) and $30 (Sunday) or $50 for a weekend pass. Hospitality, pit lane passes and camping packages are also available.
