CSRA announces first participants for MotoAmerica Heritage Cup Laguna Seca Monterey event Oct. 23rd-25th
Classic Superbike Racing Association (CSRA) is pleased to announce Eric Kondo, Tom Dorsey, Mark Hoyt, and Dennis Parrish will be competing at MotoAmerica’s Heritage Cup Monterey Laguna Seca event presented by CSRA. Darrin Gauvin co-founder of CSRA says “These particular riders and their motorcycles are a real testament to the quality of participants that will be on the CSRA grid at Laguna this fall”. The field for this inaugural Laguna Seca event continues to grow every day and is expected to be full of highly pedigreed racers and Classic pre 1982 AMA Superbikes. “We have a lot of demand from people to be included in this event and several real AMA Superbikes will once again be making noise at Laguna Seca. Older race fans remember but every time we fire up these old Superbikes the younger fans can’t believe how loud the air-cooled Classic Superbikes are or how fast they can lap the track”, says Gauvin.
Eric Kondo Former AMA 250 national pro and AFM expert will be riding Jon Woo’s former AMA Kawasaki Superbike. Kondo explains “To have the opportunity to race Jon Woo’s former Superbike is so humbling and an honor on so many levels as it pertains to motorcycle road racing. The history of our sport, the history of minorities in the sport, and the history to make motorcycle racing safer for every competitor at every track in our Country.”
Eric remembers when he first saw Jon Woo, “It was at Riverside in 1980, not really knowing anything about him, I did notice that he was super-fast. When he came into the paddock, I was happy to see that there was an Asian-American racer who was fast and I became a big fan.”
Kondo continues, “With every lap taken on Jon Woo’s motorcycle, I hope that all of you will join me in remembering Jon and all that he did and sacrificed for our sport. The tragic loss of his life proved what he did for the sport was not in vain because of great people like John Ulrich and many others who have honored his legacy by continuing to advocate for safety.”
Tom Dorsey Will again ride Bernd Koegler’s former AMA CB750F Superbike. The Koegler Racing Honda CB750f was raced in AMA Superbike and was piloted by Bernd “Jaws” Koegler himself. Bernd raced the Honda during the early 80s and campaigned the bike until 1985 when he retired from professional racing. Dorsey is the longest continuing AFM racer with thirty-two continuous seasons of competition with the club. In addition to several class championships and a couple overall top 10 years with the AFM, Tom’s competition has included racing with AMA, AHRMA, NASB and WSMC at tracks like Daytona and Laguna Seca. “This will be my second weekend on the Koegler Racing machine. The first weekend went really well and we were fast. Expecting to be towards the front of the pack when the green flag drops at CSRA Laguna event” Dorsey says.
Mark Hoyt A competitor with over fifty years of competition experience racing with organizations such as AFM, MRA, CSRA, and Ahrma. Mark remembers his first race, “It was at Lenhartsville PA. an AMA Youth Mini Cycle Race District 6, 1970. I competed on a Candy Lime, 1974 Kawasaki MT1B. Woohoo!!!” Since that first race Mark has achieved well over 150 podium finishes. Notable career highlight for Hoyt was his 1999 Championship racing with MRA in the Super Twins GTU class which he won racing the Buell S1 Lightening. Mark also participated in select rounds of the AMA Pro Thunder Class the same year as a pro.
Dennis Parrish Like Hoyt Parrish has over fifty years of motorcycle racing experience and 11 National Championships to his credit. He has raced motocross, dirt track, desert, ice, and everything in between. He typically travels about 20,000 miles annually to race in various championships. Parrish said, “I’m thrilled to not only be racing in the Moto Americas Heritage Cup event on my trusty Honda CB900f but I have raced previous events with the CSRA folks, I know they run a tight ship, and the racing is terrific. It’s an incredible opportunity for me, and I expect it will be a ton of fun.”
Gauvin encourages folks to come out and watch the action live or follow these Classic Superbike racers at what should prove to be a fantastic event also to stay tuned for more announcements regarding other riders and motorcycles who will be in attendance.
