Attack Performance/Herrin Compound Yamaha’s Josh Herrin not only won the MotoAmerica Motul Superbike Superpole session Saturday morning at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca the Georgia resident broke a long-standing lap record.

Herrin’s lap of 1:22.908 while using a rear Dunlop qualifying tire on his YZF-R1 not only topped the rest of the field by over 0.3 second it eclipsed Ben Spies’ AMA Superbike lap record of 1:23.105, which he set way back in 2007.

Monster Energy/Yamalube Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier, who had been fastest in every session prior to Superpole, ended up second-best with his lap of 1:23.265.

Danny Eslick surprised many by doing a 1:23.824 on his Scheibe Racing BMW S1000RR and securing his front-row starting spot of the season and his team’s first front-row starting spot ever.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s Roger Hayden crashed in Turn 11 while riding on his first qualifying tire and was unable to get back on track and record a lap time. This will force the veteran to start both races from the 12th spot on the grid this weekend.
