Lucas Oil/KWR team ready for season opener at Road Atlanta with Kyle Wyman & Bryce Prince
TUCSON, Ariz. — The KWR team heads to Road Atlanta this weekend for the opening round of the 2018 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. Kyle Wyman will ride his brand new #33 Lucas Oil/KWR Yamaha YZF-R1 after an extensive two weeks of testing and pre-season preparations. Bryce Prince will make his KWR debut in MotoAmerica Supersport aboard his #74 Lucas Oil/KWR Yamaha YZF-R6.
KWR tested at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway and Auto Club Speedway last week in preparation for the season, with positive feedback from both riders on their Speed Demon Motorcycles-built weapons.
“It’s been a long off-season of preparation for myself and the team, too long,” Wyman said. “I feel I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in my career. The bikes are just absolutely dialed and fast, Gary Dean has done an excellent job this winter. I’ve had the time I need to prepare my body and mind for 10 rounds this year. I am already seeing results and we haven’t even gone racing yet.”
For Wyman, he comes off a successful 2017 season where he finished 10th in the championship standings, despite missing two rounds due to injury. He bounced back from mid-season head injury to manage his career-best 2nd place finish at New Jersey Motorsports Park in September. He was then injured with a broken back at Barber Motorsports Park a week later. The injuries have never stopped Wyman, who’s last name meaning derives from ‘warrior,’ or ‘man of war.’
“Seven months feels like forever since I last raced,” Wyman said. “However, I’ve had more time on the bike this offseason than ever before, dirt or asphalt. I’ve spent more time riding something with two wheels lately than I can remember in my whole life. It makes me happy and relaxed to have been riding so much this winter in Arizona, and I can’t wait to go fight with the boys in Atlanta on my Lucas Oil R1.”
Bryce Prince has had a busy few weeks leading up to Atlanta, but hard work has never phased the scrappy rider from Bakersfield, California, who just recently joined KWR.
“I am very excited to be heading back to Atlanta this year for round one of MotoAmerica,” Prince said. “It has been a very long and hard month preparing for the season. Atlanta brought me my first podium on the 1000 last year and I really enjoy the track and all the fans there. I cannot thank all of my family and friends enough for all of the prayers, positive thoughts, and support going into the 2018 season. I cannot wait to see what I can do on the new Lucas Oil/KWR Yamaha YZF-R6.”
