Travis Wyman aiming to score third win of 2018 MotoAmerica season Sunday at Championship of Pittsburgh
Weir Everywhere Racing BMW rider still in the running to win inaugural MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Class title
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — It is to be a welcome return to familiar surroundings for Weir Everywhere Racing BMW rider Travis Wyman.
The Las Vegas, Nev. resident and instructor at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch is hoping to make the most of the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Class’ return to east coast tracks for the last three rounds of the 2018 season. Wyman is one of two riders who have a realistic chance to winning the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Class title, and he has his sights set on returning to the top step of the podium at the MotoAmerica Championship of Pittsburgh. The event is to take place at Pittsburgh International Race Complex near Wampum, Pa., Aug. 24-26.
“We are going to do everything we can to keep the championship battle close,” Wyman said. “I have some experience racing at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, and the BMW S 1000 RR has a history of performing well at the track. The team continues to grow stronger with every round, and I am confident we will have our bike dialed in and ready to contend for the win Sunday afternoon.”
MotoAmerica added Pittsburgh International Race Complex to its calendar for the first time in 2017. The fast yet technical, 2.78-mile, 19-turn track features a mix of high-speed and low-speed corners, as well as lots of elevation changes.
“I am excited to get back to the east coast where Travis gained a lot of his early racing experience,” Crew Chief Steve Weir said. “We have a really solid package in our BMW S 1000 RR, and the bike had a good showing in the Superbike Class in 2017. Anything can still happen in the chase for the Stock 1000 Class championship. As a team, we are going to work hard to get the bike dialed in quickly and give Travis the opportunity to perform at his best on Sunday.”
The MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Class race is scheduled to take place at 4:30 p.m. EDT / 1:30 p.m. PDT Sunday. The race will be live-streamed via Facebook Live on MotoAmerica’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/motoamerica). The previous race (Aug. 12 at Sonoma Raceway) has amassed 23,000 views. Live timing is available on MotoAmerica’s website at www.motoamerica.com.
