MotoAmerica: SP8S Racing to field Chris Speights on Team Truman Kawasaki In Twins Cup In 2019
The 2019 MotoAmerica Twins Cup field will see a new entrant by a veteran of Twins racing, Chris Speights riding the #138 for SP8S Racing. Chris will be riding for Team Truman and ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI) in order to raise awareness and funds for the battle to find a cure for the devastating ALS disease.
Chris started racing with the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club in 2005 taking the Top Rookie Expert award and the Battle of the Twins Lightweight Championship in 2006. In 2009, he won the Iron Man award for the most combined club points between Willow Springs International Raceway and Streets of Willow. Through 2009 and 2010, Chris won five class Championships between Formula Twins LW, 550 SBK, and 650 Twins GP also taking the #6 overall club plate in 2009 and the #7 plate in 2010.
Chris now resides in Trumbull, Connecticut, works at the Lockheed Martin Company as an engineering director in the Sikorsky Helicopter division, and has since raced with LRRS, CCS, and WERA on the East Coast. For 2019, Chris will race in select East Coast MotoAmerica rounds aboard a Kawasaki Ninja 650R. Chris is supported by John Dixon of Advanced Traction, who has ensured the K-Tech suspension is ready for the highest level of Twins racing and Chris also receives valuable support from Rider’s Discount and Robem Engineering.
“I’m very excited to race in a few rounds of the growing MotoAmerica Twins Cup and I am doing this as a platform to gain exposure and support for a cause that is important to me,” said Chris. “A friend, Amy Truman, and her family battled ALS for five brave years until she succumbed to the disease last November. ALS TDI made a significant difference for the Truman family, they’re working to find a cure for ALS and I want to help them get as much exposure and support as possible through my MotoAmerica program.”
In addition to racing in the MotoAmerica Twins Cup Championship, Chris will also ride a pedal powered bike for Team Truman in the 3-day, 270-mile ride from Boston, MA to Stamford, CT. This Tri-State Trek occurs in June and has raised more than $8 million dollars to fund ALS TDI research and treatments over the last 15 years.
