The official MotoAmerica Dunlop Pre-Season Test scheduled for March 30-31 at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is still going ahead as planned in spite of the MotoGP/MotoAmerica race event at the track being postponed.
Originally, MotoAmerica was scheduled to open its 2021 season at COTA during the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas April 16-18 with only the HONOS Superbike class racing in support of MotoGP, but that event has been postponed due to COVID-19 and ongoing restrictions on international travel and large public gatherings.
However, MotoAmerica and Dunlop are continuing with their plan to host a pre-season test at COTA, according to MotoAmerica COO Chuck Aksland.
“Our pre-season test at Barber [in March] last year was basically a wash out,” Aksland told Roadracingworld.com. “This, for one thing, it’s in the center [of America], so hopefully people from the east and west can attend. The odds of [having] decent weather are probably better than going somewhere back east. And when we put out a survey [gauging interest in the COTA test] there was almost double the amount of people who actually attended [the 2020 pre-season test at] Barber who said they were going to go.”
In addition to providing riders and teams with quality track time, Aksland said a big part of the test at COTA is the opportunity for MotoAmerica’s television production team and photographers to capture photos, video footage, and interviews that are used a variety of ways throughout the 2021 season.
Registration for the test is open until March 12 via the MotoAmerica competitor information website. The cost is $500/day for Superbike and Stock 1000 riders in Group A, $400/day for Supersport and Stock 1000 riders in Group B, and $350/day for Twins Cup and Junior Cup riders in Group C. Each Group will have four sessions each day.
The 2021 MotoAmerica season is now scheduled to start April 30 – May 2 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, where all MotoAmerica classes, including King of the Baggers, will compete.
