Substantial Increase In MotoAmerica Entries For Road Atlanta
Twins Cup Entries Up Over 300 Percent
COSTA MESA, CA (March 29, 2019)– MotoAmerica’s entries for the season opening Suzuki Championship of Atlanta at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta have grown 21.7 percent over 2018 with the Twins Cup class leading the way with a growth rate of 333 percent over last year’s season opener.
As for the headline EBC Brakes Superbike class, the quality of the field has never been better as it includes a grid of riders whose resumes include a World Championship, five AMA Superbike Championships, four MotoAmerica Supersport titles, three MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Championships and a South African Superbike Championship.
“We can’t wait to get the EBC Brakes Superbike Championship started at Road Atlanta,” MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey said. “I can picture six, seven guys in the lead pack. There’s nothing like the opening round when everybody truly believes they have a chance of winning. It’s hard not to imagine a lot of drama and it should be fun to watch.”
With the Twins Cup entry list bursting at the seams at 39 in its first race of its second season, the class will be led by defending class champion Chris Parrish and with the addition of the likes of Liqui Moly Junior Cup Champion Alex Dumas. The other class entering its sophomore season is Stock 1000 and it has also grown by leaps and bounds with the entry list numbering 20 riders – an 81 percent gain over last year’s season opener. Like Twins Cup, Stock 1000 also has a defending champion in the form of young Andrew Lee.
“It’s awesome to see how our two new classes have grown from this time last year,” said Rainey. “The Twins Cup and Stock 1000 classes have big grids heading into our opener at Road Atlanta and we’re proud of the growth of both of those classes.”
The other two classes slated for the opening round are the Liqui Moly Junior Cup class, which should be anybody’s to win with several of the top racers from a year ago moving up to different classes.
The Supersport class will be led by last year’s series runner-up Hayden Gillim, but the Rickdiculous Racing rider will certainly be challenged by a long list of riders, including former World Supersport and World Superbike contender PJ Jacobsen.
All the action gets started April 5 with a full day of practice and qualifying followed by qualifying and races on Saturday, April 6, and more racing action on Sunday, April 7.
