Injured Rider Josh Day Now At Home In Florida And Resting Comfortably

Tulsa, OK – June 7, 2016 – After suffering multiple injuries from a crash at the beginning of a MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 practice session this past Saturday morning at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Josh Day, rider of the #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing YZF-R1 flew back to Florida yesterday and is now resting comfortably at his home in Orlando.

According to wife Lauren, Josh suffered a closed-head injury, soft-tissue damage to his neck, and a fractured wrist when he highsided from his motorcycle and landed hard on a paved section of the run-off area in turn six at Road America and was knocked unconscious.

Along with cornerworkers and emergency medical personnel, Lauren, who is a registered nurse, was one of the first people on the scene after Josh’s accident. Josh went first to Road America medical center, and then was transferred by ambulance to St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. A CT scan revealed a subdural hematoma in Josh’s brain, so he was transferred by ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay for further treatment and observation.

“After the hospital ran some tests and treated him, Josh was able to sleep in his hospital bed on Saturday night,” Lauren said. “He slept on his own, and the doctors did not need to put him in a medical state, which was obviously a good sign,” Lauren said.

After further tests and observation on Sunday, he was discharged from St. Vincent Hospital late on Sunday. Along with Josh, Lauren drove from Green Bay to a hotel near Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee on Sunday night where they spent the night and then flew home to Orlando on Monday morning.

“Josh is home with me now. It’s good to be home after all that happened, and he is resting,” Lauren said.

When Lauren was asked about Josh’s injuries, she said, “Well, his Arai helmet protected him well, but he obviously hit his head really hard, and that’s the injury that concerns us most right now. He also injured his neck…a soft-tissue injury because he got whiplash from the fall. And he fractured his wrist.”

Along with lots of rest, Josh will see a head-trauma specialist in the Orlando area, he will visit a concussion clinic, and also have his fractured wrist attended to by an orthopedist.

“I want to thank the corner workers at Road America, the paramedics and emergency personnel, Raymond Rizzo (from Motor Racing Outreach), the hospital staff members at St. Nicholas and St. Vincent, and everyone else who helped Josh. And thank you to everyone who has Josh in their thoughts and prayers. We are taking things day by day right now, and we are counting our blessings.”
