The MotoAmerica race program Sunday afternoon at Road Atlanta is currently on hold due to heavy rain and excessive standing water in portions of the track.
Superbike/Superstock 1000cc Race One took place on schedule in relatively light rain, but the start of Supersport Race Two was aborted on the warm-up lap due to deep standing water in the esses caused by an accumulation of rain over the last several hours.
The weather forecast for the Atlanta area calls for rain and thunderstorms all day Sunday.
We will report more information as it becomes available.
Update: As of 3:10 p.m. local time, the rain has stopped, standing water on the track has drained or been swept off and preparations are being made to resume racing. According to MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey, the plan right now is to resume right where we were on the schedule with the Superport, Superstock 600cc and Superbike/Superstock 1000cc races running in the order for their original race distances.
Second Update: The remaining race schedule has been shortened and shuffled. The Supersport race has been shortened from 20 to 13 laps. The Superbike/Superstock 1000cc race has been moved ahead of the Superstock 600cc race and shortened from 22 to 14 laps. The Superstock 600cc race has been moved to the end of the day and shortened from 16 to 10 laps.
