Garrett Gerloff switched to Dunlop slicks on his Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha YZF-R1 as the Road Atlanta road course started to dry out halfway through MotoAmerica EBC Brakes Superbike Qualifying Practice One and came away with the fastest lap time, a 1:30.786.
No other riders were known to have used slicks during the session.
Yoshimura Suzuki’s Toni Elias was the quickest of the riders on Dunlop rain tires with his 1:34.401.
Weather forecasts call for the current light rain/misting conditions to end Friday afternoon when the Superbike class will have Qualifying Practice Two and their last chance to earn one of the spots in Saturday’s Superpole qualifying session.
