Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Superbike Champ Hayes Adds To His Legacy With Superbike Race 1 Victory At Miller Motorsports Park

Tooele, UT – June 28, 2015 – A big part of MotoAmerica’s mission is to help identify and develop the next generation of U.S. road racers who will take on the world’s best riders in MotoGP and World Superbike. And, while that is already happening, 40-year-old Josh Hayes continues to remind everyone that he is not done yet…far from it, in fact.

In Superbike Race 1 at Miller Motorsports Park, Josh–who earned pole position in Saturday’s Superpole Qualifying event–and his precocious Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Superbike teammate Cameron Beaubier–who is leading the 2015 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship–raced virtually in tandem throughout the 18-lap event, with each rider taking multiple turns at the front of the pack. And, in the end, it all came down to the final lap. Josh made a deft pass on Cameron, and it proved to be the deciding maneuver as Josh took the checkers to notch his sixth Superbike win of the season and break the tie in 2015 victory totals that he had with Cameron.

“It was a great race,” Josh commented. “We’ve had good speed here all weekend, and I really love this track. For Cam and I, it was really a lot like a chess match. I kind of think it was easier to lose the race than it was to win. I was able to get past Cameron on that final lap, and that did the trick.”

Cameron said, “I got a decent jump at the start, but Josh got a better one, and then it was close between us the whole race. I passed him a few times and he passed me back. It was a fun race, but Josh kind of outrode me on the last lap. I couldn’t find a way to get past him after he got by me.”

With Josh’s victory, the Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates are still first and second in the Superbike points standings, with Josh now just one point behind Cameron for the Championship.
