More, from a press release issued by Team Hammer:
STRONG SHOWING FOR TEAM HAMMER IN SONOMA
Team Hammer added to its 2018 MotoAmerica trophy haul on Saturday at Sonoma Raceway. Valentin Debise earned a hard-fought second place and a spot on the podium in the Supersport race. Additionally, Jake Lewis earned another top five in the Superbike contest at the circuit north of San Francisco.
Polesitter Debise joined a three-rider pack contesting the lead in the early stages, holding third as the Supersport race developed. The Frenchman was able to make a successful challenge for second and did his best to run down the leader, but was unable to do so despite a strong late-race performance. On board his M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R600, Debise finished 2.4 seconds behind the winner.
“At the beginning of the race, I was thinking we would be a bit better but I struggled. I think it was more me than the bike but I worked hard in the practices to be fast at the end of the race. I saw the other riders make some mistakes, so I took my chance to overtake. I overtook the rider in second but he got me back and then I passed him again. We lost more than a second to the leader and then I lost some more time to a lapper. I wasn’t able to catch the leader but my pace was really good at the end, just not quite enough.
“Tomorrow, we have more work but overall I am happy,” said Debise, who missed the early part of the season with an injury. “My body felt good at the end of the race and my bike, too. It is an improvement and we will keep going and see how it goes tomorrow.”
Nick McFadden earned another solid result, taking a hotly contested seventh place on his M4 medAge Suzuki.
M4 RiCK! Suzuki’s Daytona Anderson bested a three-rider group to earn 12th at the undulating California circuit.
In the Superbike race, Jake Lewis earned another top five, coming home fifth on his M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R1000. Lewis held eighth on the first time around the circuit but moved up in the opening laps. By lap seven, he had consolidated fifth spot and held the position to the checkered flag.
Team Hammer will return to action on Sunday at Sonoma Raceway to finish out the weekend’s races.
