MotoAmerica has updated the technical regulations for its
2019 Junior Cup class to match new regulations for the 2019 FIM Supersport 300
World Championship.
Earlier today, FIM issued a press release announcing changes
to the technical regulations governing the Supersport 300 World Championship. MotoAmerica, which works closely with FIM Technical Director Scott Smart, announced its new Junior Cup technical regulation updates last week in a technical bulletin sent only to licensed competitors.
In today’s release from the FIM it was explained that the new technical rule updates were intended to balance the
performance of the popular motorcycles used in the class (Kawasaki Ninja 400,
KTM RC 390 R, and Yamaha YZF-R3) so they were all close to the level of the “middle
performing” machine, the KTM.
To accomplish this, FIM and MotoAmerica are allowing the
Yamaha YZF-R3 to be fitted with an approved engine kit to raise its performance
and restricting the performance of the Kawasaki Ninja 400 by mandating that it must be fitted with an inlet restrictor plate.
Maximum RPM limits will still be used in both series.
MotoAmerica’s initial rev limiter settings at the start of the 2019 season (as
set in the required HM Quickshifter software update) will be:
Motorcycle | Max. rpm |
Honda CBR500R | 10,000 rpm |
Kawasaki Ninja 300 | 13,000 rpm |
Kawasaki Ninja 400 | 10,350 rpm |
Yamaha YZF-R3 | 13,000 rpm |
KTM RC 390/R | 11,000 rpm |
In addition, weight limits will be used for both the
motorcycles and combined motorcycle and rider weights.
The weight of the rider will be measured in full riding gear,
and the weight of the bike will be measured as it comes off the racetrack.
There will be a “Soft Maximum Weight” and a “Hard Minimum
Weight” limit for each model of motorcycle. If a bike exceeds its Soft Maximum
Weight limit the combined bike and rider minimum weight limit does not have to
be met. But the bike by itself may never be below the Hard Minimum Weight limit.
The intent is to set a limit to the amount of ballast a
motorcycle must carry to ease the setting up of the motorcycle.
Weight Limits:
Motorcycle | Hard Min. Weight | Soft Max. Weight | Comb. Bike/Rider Max. Weight |
Honda CBR500R | 323 lbs./147 kg | 352 lbs./160 kg | 462 lbs./210 kg. |
Kawasaki Ninja 300 | 293 lbs./133 kg | 321 lbs./146 kg | 440 lbs./200 kg |
Kawasaki Ninja 400 | 301 lbs./137 kg | 330 lbs./150 kg | 462 lbs./210 kg |
KTM RC 390/R | 293 lbs./133 kg | 321 lbs./146 kg | 444 lbs./202 kg |
Yamaha YZF-R3 | 301 lbs./137 kg | 330 lbs./150 kg | 449 lbs./204 kg |
The air box modifications introduced early in the 2018
season will still be allowed.
