Jayson Uribe, age 21, has signed with FLY Racing/ADR Motorsports to race a Suzuki GSX-R1000 in the 2021 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.
“David [Anthony, FLY Racing/ADR Motorsports rider/owner] reached out to me and asked what my plan was for 2021,” Uribe told Roadracingworld.com. “I told him we had some things in the water but didn’t have anything signed yet. From there, we started talking back and forth about somethings we wanted to do and what we had in mind.
“We had an opportunity to test Dave’s bike in late January, and later that week we signed a contract for 2021. It’s been good so far. I love the team, and I love David. He’s a really great guy. I’m just trying my best to get used to the bike.”
After several seasons racing successfully in the British MotoStar (Moto3) National Championship, the French 600cc Superstock National Championship, and the FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship, Uribe returned to America and focused on club racing locally with AFM, where he won the club’s #1 plate in 2019.
Uribe also made appearances in selected MotoAmerica events in the Superstock 600, Supersport, and Superbike classes, including a podium finish in Supersport at Utah Motorsports Campus in 2017.
During this time, Uribe has also been doing a formal apprenticeship to be an electrician and more recently has become a volunteer firefighter for the Napa County Fire Department.
“Yes, I’m in my last year of my apprenticeship to be an electrician and I’m still a volunteer firefighter,” said Uribe. “The firefighting thing is something I’ve always been interested in since I was a kid, but I never pursued it until 2017 when we had a pretty big fire that was right by my house. That was the turning point for me. I felt I needed to get off my butt and make this happen. I went to the academy, graduated, and here we are.”
In fact, Uribe spent approximately 30 days on the fire lines fighting wildfires in California in 2020 and was still able to race with AFM and in selected MotoAmerica events. But for 2021, Uribe said racing is his priority.
On March 21, Uribe used his new Suzuki Superbike to beat his team owner/teammate Anthony and win the AFM Formula Pacific race at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
Uribe said the next time he will be in action will be March 30-31 at the official MotoAmerica/Dunlop test at Circuit of The Americas.
