“Finish Strong” Is The Mantra For Mathew Scholtz And Westby Racing This Weekend At MotoAmerica’s Season-Ender
Tulsa, OK – September 18, 2019 – The 10th and final round of the 2019 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship begins on Friday at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, and Mathew Scholtz and the Westby Racing team are determined to finish out the season with two podium results on Barber’s 2.38-mile, 17-turn road course.
It’s a track on which Mathew has had a lot of success, highlighted by his historic 2017 Superbike race victory aboard his #11 Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 when the bike was in Superstock 1000 trim.
Currently ranked sixth in the 2019 Superbike standings, Mathew and the team have a good chance to move up to fifth and possibly even fourth in the rankings, depending on how things go in the two Superbike races at Barber.
“It’s been a bit of a tough season for us coming to grips with the new Superbike electronics,” admitted Mathew. “But, we’ve made progress all season long. Our results at the last couple of rounds have been more where we expect to be, especially finishing on the podium in race two at New Jersey. We’d like to get a couple more podiums this weekend and hopefully move up a position or two in the final Championship standings. The track at Barber has been repaved, so that could be a bit of an equalizer. The advantage goes to the teams that can adapt the quickest and best to the new surface, make the right tire choices, and manage tire life. I’ve got full confidence in the Westby team and myself that we can face these unknowns and use them to our advantage.”
Superbike race one will go green on Saturday at 3 PM Central Time, and Superbike race two is on Sunday also at 3 PM Central Time. Both races will be broadcast on FOX Sports 2 (FS2) and streamed on MotoAmerica Live+.
